Sicily Yacht Sinking: Identities Revealed of Missing Passengers

As a seasoned follower of global events, I find myself deeply moved by this heart-wrenching tragedy unfolding in Sicily. Having spent my formative years in Italy and having had the privilege to sail the Mediterranean, I can only imagine the terror that struck those onboard when their yacht was engulfed by a storm.

Additional details are emerging about the tragedy in Sicily.

Following a storm that sank a luxurious yacht near an Italian island on August 19th, authorities have verified the identities of the six individuals who remain missing.

Mike Lynch, a prominent tech figure from the UK, along with his daughter, Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and his spouse, Chris Morvillo, a lawyer at Clifford Chance, and his wife, have yet to be found. This information was shared by Salvatore Cocina, the director of Sicily’s Civil Protection Agency, with NBC News.

Though Cocina didn’t disclose Lynch’s daughter’s name, it has been publicly known that Judy Bloomer and Neda Morvillo are the spouses of Morvillo and Bloomers respectively, as their employers have identified them by their names.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share an update on a recent event. Earlier, it was confirmed that my dear friend Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, has been safely rescued following the unfortunate incident. However, our hearts are still heavy as we anxiously wait for news regarding their 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, who remains among those still unaccounted for, according to NBC News.

Even though six passengers remain unaccounted for, it’s worth noting that the body of the ship’s cook, known as Antiguan citizen Ricardo Thomas, had already been recovered from the water.

Earlier this summer, the Associated Press reported that Lynch had been exonerated from fraud allegations linked to Hewlett Packard’s $11 billion acquisition of Autonomy Corp. This boat trip seemed like a celebration of his acquittal, as Morvillo was one of his U.S. lawyers and Bloomer testified on his behalf in court.

A total of 10 crew members and 12 passengers were on Lynch’s yacht when it was hit by a sudden storm and a waterspout, a kind of water vortex similar to a tornado over water. The vessel eventually sank, leaving it about 150 feet underwater. It is thought that the missing crew members are trapped inside the ship’s hull.

As an overly enthusiastic fan, I can’t help but share this thrilling tale: Among us stranded souls, a fortunate 15 managed to secure a ride on a neighboring vessel before the mighty coast guard escorted us ashore. NBC News reports that eight of these lucky ones were transported to a medical facility, while the remaining seven found temporary refuge in a hotel.

On August 20th, according to NBC News, rescue workers and divers continued their search for survivors among the remaining passengers, following an unsuccessful effort the day prior.

According to reports, Italy’s fire department stated that their divers initially tried to enter the wreckage, but they encountered difficulties due to blockages and tight passageways within the ship, making it hard to maneuver around.

The divers were working in rotations of 12 minutes underwater because of the depth of the sunken debris, with the search efforts above water being carried out by a helicopter and a fireboat from the department.

As one of the fortunate survivors, I’d like to share my harrowing tale. My partner, James Emsley, our little 12-month-old daughter, Sophie, and I miraculously made it through due to our presence on the yacht’s upper deck when it began to submerge.

According to reports by the BBC and La Repubblica, she stated that the trio were violently tossed off the deck. To prevent her child from sinking, she claimed to have used all her might, stretching her arms upward.

According to Golunski, it was completely pitch-black. In the water, I found it impossible to keep my eyes open. I cried out for assistance, but all I heard around me were the cries of others.
