Sigourney Weaver offers some insight into her character’s role in the forthcoming Star Wars series, The Mandalorian & Grogu. Although the esteemed actress couldn’t disclose much, she hinted that her character holds a significant position. “I embody a remarkable figure who is, as you may guess, in a position of power,” Weaver stated during an interview with GamesRadar+ while publicizing Apple TV+’s The Gorge. She further revealed that she’ll be instructing Din Djarin. “I must dispatch the Mandalorian on a mission to the Outer Rim, where all the dangerous events occur.
Weaver’s job allowed her to act alongside the charming Grogu, which she cited as the main reason for signing on to the project. “He’s quite a little tough guy,” Weaver remarked, hinting at Grogu’s future exploits. “Fans are going to be thrilled to see what Grogu has been doing because he’s grown up a bit and is capable of more than we might suspect from watching the series.
Under the direction of Jon Favreau, the on-screen duo of “The Mandalorian” and “Grogu” marks a cinematic expansion of the popular Disney+ series “The Mandalorian”. This production continues the escapades of its namesake characters. Although specifics about the plot are being kept secret, the movie is set to debut in May 2026. Sigourney Weaver’s involvement was first announced in August 2024. The film’s ensemble also features “The Bear” actor Jeremy Allen White as the voice of Rotta the Hutt.
Despite the fact that “The Mandalorian and Grogu” isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until next summer, it’s said that filming wrapped up in October 2024. Ever since then, fans have kept a close eye on gossip for more details; there’s been chatter suggesting that Embo, a bounty hunter introduced in the animated series “The Clone Wars,” could be the main antagonist of the film. Additionally, it’s rumored that “The Mandalorian and Grogu” might feature an Imperial presence, with Jonny Coyne set to reprise his role as the “Imperial Warlord” character from Season 3 of “The Mandalorian.
The enigmatic and powerful character that Weaver might take over as Greef Karga could be how Lucasfilm handles the absence of Carl Weathers’ character following his passing last year. With Greef being a beloved figure among fans from all three seasons of The Mandalorian, it may prove more fitting for the storyline to subtly write him out, perhaps with Weaver’s character assuming leadership on Nevarro. An alternative scenario is that Weaver could portray a New Republic official who assigns Din to undertake a perilous mission. Given that The Mandalorian & Grogu might reintroduce characters from Moff Gideon’s Shadow Council, it seems plausible that the New Republic would play some role in these events.
No matter who Weaver portrays in Star Wars, her longstanding on-screen authority makes her an excellent choice for depicting a potent character within the Star Wars universe. Throughout her acting journey, she’s imbued numerous roles with a no-nonsense demeanor yet showcased their vulnerabilities and wit. This blend seems like a promising recipe for creating another iconic Star Wars character, and it will be intriguing to discover more about Weaver’s role in the development of The Mandalorian & Grogu. Even with limited screen time, her entrance into the galaxy far, far away is bound to be exciting.
