As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement at the prospect of the Silent Hill 2 remake getting optimized for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro. My first encounter with Silent Hill was back in the days of dial-up internet and floppy disks, and ever since then, this series has held a special place in my gaming heart.
Although Sony’s list of over 50 PS5 Pro compatible games didn’t include Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2, it appears that this game is indeed designed to run on the new console. This was revealed through its PlayStation Store listing which carries the label “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” However, the exact release date for the patch and its features have yet to be disclosed.
As a gamer, playing this remake on my base PS5, I’ve noticed it comes with two modes: Quality and Performance. From what Digital Foundry says after upscaling to 4K, the Quality mode offers a visual feast, but the Performance mode takes a hit in areas like lighting, ambient occlusion, and fog effects. In fact, during intense combat and exploration, it seems to struggle to maintain a consistent frame rate.
If Bloober Team doesn’t incorporate a combined mode, leveraging the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution of the PS5 Pro could still enhance upscaling. Moreover, the Performance mode might experience smoother frame rates due to additional GPU power, potentially justifying your interest in exploring more about this console and whether it’s a worthwhile purchase.
Keep an eye out for further updates, as we delve deeper into the subject: The remake of Silent Hill 2 has been released on both PS5 and PC, and it managed to sell more than a million units within just four days. Don’t miss our review!
