SILENT HILL 4: The Room Update Restores Missing Content

The purpose of the GOG Preservation Program is straightforward: it aims to make sure classic games remain unchanged, are free from digital rights management (DRM), and can be played on contemporary gaming systems. To date, more than 100 games have been meticulously restored as part of this initiative, with ‘Silent Hill 4: The Room‘ being the latest addition. This PC adaptation of Konami’s horror game was incomplete compared to its original version, but thanks to the program, those missing elements have now been reinstated.

It’s worth mentioning that the GOG edition of “Silent Hill 4: The Room” has been up for sale on various digital platforms for some time now, having been initially launched on October 2nd, 2020. This means that players who are interested have had ample opportunity to acquire the game. Since its initial release, updates have been implemented to ensure better compatibility with modern hardware and to rectify numerous problems specific to this version. Furthermore, the game’s enrollment in the GOG Preservation Program has brought it closer to its original launch. Here is a list of changes made to this revised edition of the game, as detailed on the GOG store page:

1. Improved compatibility with modern hardware.
2. Resolution adjustments for optimal display.
3. Fixes for various issues affecting this version of the game.
4. Enhancements aimed at bringing the game closer to its original release state, thanks to the GOG Preservation Program.

However, one point stands out in relation to the PC version of Silent Hill 4: The Room. GOG has reintroduced all the omitted hauntings, resulting in the most comprehensive PC port. Additionally, they’ve adjusted the image to resemble the PS2 version, making it a more authentic adaptation compared to earlier releases.

It’s worth mentioning that if you already own Silent Hill 4: The Room, you won’t need to buy it again. Instead, you can simply update your existing game via the GOG launcher.

Apart from adding Silent Hill 4: The Room, the GOG Preservation Program also welcomed a total of 24 games recently. Some of these games hail from well-known or influential series. Among them are F.E.A.R. Platinum, Ultima 1, 2, and 3, Deus Ex Game of the Year Edition, Fallout 2, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

In honor of adding 24 new games to their Preservation Program, GOG is currently reducing the price of all these titles for their Spring Sale. This sale concludes on April 3rd.
