Warning: Spoilers below for Silo Season 2
The thrilling finale of Season 2 on Silo left viewers eagerly anticipating Season 3, as it ended with a nail-biting cliffhanger. This Apple TV+ series is set in a dystopian future where humans live underground due to the air becoming toxic after apocalyptic events. In Season 2, we delved into what lies beyond Silo 18’s walls, as Juliette Nichols (played by Rebecca Ferguson) arrived at desolate Silo 17 following an unsuccessful cleaning mission and encountered many new faces. Simultaneously, a rebellion was igniting back home, eventually leading to a full-blown war in the final episode of Season 2.
The final episode of Season 2, called “Into the Fire,” left many viewers puzzled with more questions than solutions. Alongside the numerous surprising elements in the finale, speculation about what will happen next in the world of Silo is dominating conversations. In fact, it was confirmed back in November that the series would continue for a third and fourth season to wrap up the storyline.
Where Does the Story Stand Heading Into Silo Season 3?
In the thrilling climax, I found myself cheering for Knox (Shane McRae), Shirley (Remmie Milner), Martha (Harriet Walter), and their band of rebels as they orchestrated a shrewd and audacious uprising within Silo 18. With the aid of Sheriff Billings (Chinaza Uche) and his deputy Hank (Billy Postlethwaite), they managed to rally the entire sheriff’s department to their cause, thus securing their victory in seizing control of the silo. Meanwhile, over in Silo 17, Juliette was frantically making preparations to rejoin Silo 18. Jimmy (Steve Zahn), once known as Solo, lent a hand in readying her suit and revealed the means to deactivate the silo’s Safeguard Procedure, a move that would inevitably claim the lives of everyone within and without its walls.
Upon reaching Silo 18, Juliette warned the rebels about the danger outside. She later met Mayor Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins), who wished to depart and end his life, but she reassured him that she could rescue everyone. As they attempted to re-enter the silo, a fire erupted, enveloping both Juliette and Bernard. Their fate remains unknown. The closing scene of the episode shifts back to the past, set in a Washington D.C. restaurant, where a congressman and journalist conversed about whispers of nuclear conflict, foreshadowing the eventual construction of the silos.
What Will Silo Season 3 Be About?
In simple terms, “Silo” Season 3 is planned to carry on the contemporary narrative set in the silos’ post-apocalyptic reality after Juliette’s dramatic comeback, while also exploring the past hinted at in the closing moments of Season 2 finale.
Regarding Season 3, the series mastermind, Graham Yost, shared with Time Magazine that many questions will be answered. He stated, “We delve into the backstory, yet we’re also immersed in our underground society.” By the end of Season 3, you’ll discover what happened to those who ventured beyond area 17, including the reasons and methods behind it. A significant mystery that will be unraveled is how everything started and how it all began.
Who Will Return in Silo Season 3?
In the upcoming season 3 of Silo, it’s anticipated that most of the surviving characters will re-take their roles. The likely returning cast members are: Ferguson playing Juliette, Robbins as Bernard, McRae as Knox, Milner as Shirley, Walter as Martha, Uche as Sheriff Billings, Zahn as Jimmy, Common as Robert Sims, Avi Nash as Lukas Kyle, and Alexandria Riley as Camille Sims. Many others are also expected to return.
In the Season 2 finale, Iain Glen’s character Dr. Pete Nichols met his end due to a massive explosion, suggesting he won’t reappear. On the other hand, Jessica Henwick’s journalist Helen and Ashley Zukerman’s congressman Daniel made their debut in that episode, both of whom are set to take on recurring roles throughout Season 3.
When Will Silo Season 3 Premiere?
Filming for Season 3 of “Silo” started in October 2024, and it is expected to wrap up roughly around mid-2025. In an interview with Collider, Ferguson suggested that Seasons 3 and 4 might be filmed simultaneously, saying, “I believe we would film them together, and that would mark the end.
The third season of Silo has yet to announce its release date, but it’s anticipated to air sometime in the middle to late part of 2026. Though you may have a lengthy wait for Season 3, the gap between Seasons 3 and 4 should be significantly shorter if they film them consecutively.
Silo is available to stream on Apple TV+.
