Silo Showrunner Promises This Major Change for Season 3 (And Fans Will Be Relieved)

In a delightful change for fans of “Silo”, Season 3 promises to deviate from the series’ past installments in an intriguing manner. A recurring criticism from viewers has been the overabundance of extremely gloomy scenes in “Silo”. The show’s production design, characterized by extensive use of browns, grays, and low lighting, effectively mirrors the post-apocalyptic narrative, but this makes it ideal for viewing in a dimly lit room with the brightness cranked up. However, creator and showrunner Graham Yost has shared with TVLine that Season 3 will tackle this issue head-on.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW!

Season 2 of Silo concluded by introducing a flashback to contemporary times, offering the initial glimpse into the world occurrences that eventually led to the dystopian future. As such, we can anticipate that Season 3 will interweave events taking place within silos with those from the past that shaped them. Recently, Yost has revealed that viewers can look forward to more daylight scenes than ever before in the series.

Yost confirmed that the upcoming season of “Silo” will feature outdoor scenes, set in the past, specifically in Washington D.C. He also mentioned a return to Silo 17. However, it’s important to note that due to a significant power problem at Silo 17, they won’t have much light.

As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the thoughtful aspects of “Silo” Season 2. Fred Golan, our brilliant executive producer and writer, emphasized the significance of diversifying the show’s backdrops. He said, “Let’s strive to make the world we see outside visually stunning, as a reminder of what was once ours.”

When questioned about the gloomy appearance of Season 2, our showrunner sought to clarify any misunderstandings. Instead of defending it, he candidly admitted, “I won’t argue with that. It’s just how it unfolds. Sometimes things appear differently in a dimly lit editing suite.”

However, he urged us not to jump to conclusions. “Don’t take my word for it,” he said. “When we screened the first episode in London, it looked incredible on the big screen because movie screens are exceptionally bright. So I encourage everyone to increase the brightness at home, and you’ll notice a significant change.”

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’ve been hooked on the television series “Silo” since its premiere in 2023, wrapping up its gripping sophomore season recently. Set in a distant future where humanity hides underground in silos to shield themselves from toxic air outside, this show unfolds a captivating tale of power struggles and rebellion. Intriguingly, the government of each silo allows its citizens to venture outside for “cleaning,” but this action is always fatal.

Starring Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols, a resourceful mechanic who ascends to become her silo’s sheriff, the series follows Juliette’s quest for justice after her lover’s murder. This investigation sets off a sequence of events that culminates in a mass uprising in Season 2. The nerve-wracking cliffhanger at the end of Season 2 left us on edge as Juliette miraculously survived her cleaning and spent much of the season stranded at the desolate Silo 17. Her confrontation with Mayor Bernard Holland, played by Tim Robbins, ended in flames when they tried to re-enter the silo, leaving their fates uncertain. The final scene of the season took us back in time before the existence of the silos, hinting at an intriguing plot line for Season 3.

Yost’s statement that Silo Season 3 will be clearer on screens brings a sense of relief. Despite the show’s captivating nature, it isn’t always pleasant to crank up the brightness on various devices like computers, TVs, phones, and tablets just to see every detail. Frequently, viewers have voiced concerns over Silo’s dark lighting, so it’s encouraging to know that the creative team is taking note of feedback and plans to address this issue in future seasons. Additionally, the exploration of Silo’s storyline into the past offers an intriguing chance for audiences to understand the backstory of the dystopian society portrayed in Seasons 1 and 2. With numerous unanswered questions still lingering, Silo enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the arrival of Season 3.

Silo Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Apple TV+.
