Simone Biles Seemingly Shades MyKayla Skinner After Olympics Win

As a seasoned gymnastics enthusiast with years of dedication to the sport, I must admit that watching Team USA’s spectacular performance at the Olympics was nothing short of inspiring. The resilience, determination, and sheer skill displayed by these athletes were truly awe-inspiring.

Simone Biles is flipping around criticism against gymnasts.

Following her victory at the 2024 Olympics, the 27-year-old athlete appeared to respond to her ex-team member MyKayla Skinner‘s critical comments suggesting that contemporary gymnasts do not put in as much effort as their predecessors did.

On Instagram, Simone joyously posted photos of herself along with Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera who had just won the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics team final on July 30, expressing her feelings with the caption “Absence of skill, indolent, Olympic champions.”

The post comes weeks after MyKayla, who competed alongside Simone at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, sparked controversy with her reaction to the gymnastics trials for Team USA, saying in a since-deleted YouTube video, “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be.”

She went on to say, “Many girls seem to put in less effort,” implying that they lack the drive for hard work.

In her contentious video, MyKayla (age 27) implied that the U.S. Center for SafeSport, an organization established to combat abuse within sports, might have contributed to the perceived lackadaisical approach.

She noted that coaches must exercise caution when communicating with athletes, avoiding harsh words. On one hand, this is beneficial, but on the other, she believes that to excel in gymnastics, a certain level of assertiveness and intensity is necessary.

Later on, MyKayla apologized following significant online criticism, explaining that her remarks had been misconstrued or misperceived.

In a video posted to her Instagram Stories on July 3rd, she clarified that much of what she had been discussing wasn’t solely about the current team. She expressed affection for and was proud of every girl who made it onto the team.

Three days after making a statement, the former gymnast expressed that it was not his intent to upset or dishonor any of the athletes, nor did he mean to undermine their diligent efforts.

She expressed on X, previously known as Twitter, “The fruits of your labor and commitment are evident now, and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved.”
