Single Player Games Are Still Coming from Dark Souls, Elden Ring Dev

Although the upcoming games in Elden Ring, Nightreign and The Duskbloods, have a strong emphasis on multiplayer, it’s important to note that FromSoftware isn’t straying from their main focus: creating engaging single-player experiences.

According to a recent conversation with Nintendo after their Switch 2 presentation introducing The Duskbloods, director Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that they are committed to continuously crafting games primarily designed for one player experiences, such as Elden Ring, which adhere to our traditional design ethos.

Despite the massive triumph of Elden Ring, it was unlikely that FromSoftware would cease creating solo-gaming games altogether. However, Miyazaki clarifies, “This doesn’t necessarily imply that our company is moving towards a more multiplayer-centric approach for future titles.

During the interview, Miyazaki shared some background information about the game’s creation and evolution. He mentioned that the game has consistently received backing from Nintendo since its inception. Interestingly, it was initially designed as a game for the first Switch console. As the game began to take form, Nintendo proposed the idea of a Switch 2, which prompted us to adjust our development strategy to accommodate this new hardware.
