In the past few weeks, Sister Julienne from “Call the Midwife” has been carrying a heavy burden, reminiscent of the weight of the globe.
During the Christmas episode, I learned that the fate of Nonnatus House was uncertain once more, as the Board of Health had brought up concerns about its continued importance.
She told Trixie during the season 14 premiere that they disapprove of the fact that the arrangement is, inherently, a group of women who follow a religious vocation.
“They do not like that our first obedience is to God and not to them.”
However, recently elevated to a more executive position, Trixie promptly reminded her associate and comrade that the sisters continue to be indispensable figures in the community.
With passion burning inside her, she swiftly presented essential data and statistics to underscore their unquestionable value during an official meeting, ensuring that once more, Nonnatus House was free from suspicion.
Hurrah, indeed.
But Sister Julienne’s looked less than joyous in the teaser for the next episode.
Sister Monica Joan remarks, “You appear troubled,” noting your somber expression. “There seems to be a problem.
Is it possible that the Board of Health is considering reinvestigating their decision to close down Nonnatus House, or perhaps they are introducing stricter requirements that might not be entirely favorable?
It’s quite possible that Sister Julienne will face a difficult medical situation, as hinted by the scene where she appears engaged in a tense argument with an unidentified individual.
She asserts that she’ll choose the most suitable option for both her and her baby, expressing an unusually strong emotion.
And Sister Julienne is not the only one with a cross to bear…
In the upcoming episode, we’ll delve deeper into the strained relationship between the new character, Sister Catherine, and her family, hinted at in the previous episode’s conclusion.
She urges him not to disconnect the call, speaking to her father who has rejected her following her decision to dedicate herself to God.
As Catherine approaches the point of making her First Vows, her fear grows increasingly stronger.
Is her actions justified, given that she’s dedicating her life to serving both God and strangers, despite the hurt she’s inflicted on those who cared for her deeply throughout her life?
