Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown Suggests Kody Brown Is a Narcissist

Janelle Brown is really telling it all.

In a candid reflection, the star of “Sister Wives” didn’t mince words about her past relationship with Kody Brown. She even raised doubts about whether his actions might suggest narcissistic tendencies.

She expressed her belief that there was indeed a pattern of “love bombing,” as she put it, during her conversation with Sukanya Krishnan in the third installment of the TLC series’ four-part tell-all on June 8. Following this, she suggested, there seemed to be a gradual “winding down.

When Sukanya asked for an example of the ‘love bombing’ being referred to, Janelle clarified, “A narcissist tends to follow a pattern: they shower affection, then there’s a period of withdrawal or hurt, followed by causing harm or pain. After that, they return with more affection to mend things, creating almost a cycle.

To which Sukanya noted, “You use the word narcissist. Are you saying Kody’s a narcissist?”

In her response, Janelle tactfully admitted, “I’m not equipped to make a diagnosis for him, but it seems that everyone must reach their own conclusion about this matter.

The 56-year-old, who is not a professional in psychology or psychiatry, remarked, “I follow popular culture. I can’t say for certain, but it appears that many things are quite alike.

The American Psychiatry Association approximates that narcissistic personality disorder occurs in about 1-2% of the general public. It’s characterized by a persistent pattern featuring an inflated sense of self-importance, a constant craving for recognition, and a notable absence of consideration for others’ feelings.

On several occasions, Janelle has reflected critically on her past relationship with Kody, the man she was jointly married to with Meri Brown, Christine Brown, and Robyn Brown. With three out of the four marriages seemingly disintegrating – Robyn being Kody’s only remaining spouse now – Janelle firmly believes that the blame lies with Kody.

In the TLC series on June 1, she clarified that when one enters a plural marriage, as per our beliefs, one is anticipated to transform and grow beyond their current self.

She also mentioned that he should manage to make every relationship successful. However, she clarified that the marriages didn’t necessarily have to be identical, since nothing in life is ever fair or equal. Nonetheless, she emphasized that it was primarily the patriarch’s duty to cater to the varying needs of all relationships, no matter what form that might take.

As per Janelle, it was during the pandemic that Kody started to reduce his share of parental responsibilities, as they have a combined family of six children together.

Janelle observed that he seemed to have this attitude—particularly during the COVID period—of ‘I’ll just let it pass. You two don’t get along. I’m exhausted. If I continue, it will shorten my life,'” she mused. “Suddenly, he declared, ‘I simply don’t wish to carry on anymore.’

As she put it, “He kind of threw this little temper tantrum.”

Kody Brown once humorously remarked on Sister Wives that he initially thought of Robyn as a typical soccer mom when they met in 2009. He joked about her having a van, three children, and being divorced, implying that he didn’t need such complications in his life. However, over the past decade and a half, they have continued their relationship, expanding their family with son Solomon and daughter Ariella.

When it comes to involving other team members, it’s not part of our strategy. To be honest, I find it challenging because it seems like, ‘Well, those ideas didn’t work, so let’s move on to someone else.’ This is difficult for me, and it feels disrespectful, as expressed by Robyn during the December special episode of Sister Wives: One on One featuring Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, and Christine Brown departing.

In January 2024, one year following the announcement of their separation, Meri disclosed on Instagram that she had started dating Amos Andrews as early as October of the previous year. However, in February 2024, Meri also shared on Instagram that they had ended their relationship.

She obtained both the man and the family. On Valentine’s Day 2023, Christine made their relationship official with David Woolley, sharing her joy by saying, “At last, I have found the love of my life in David. The moment he held me close, it felt like my soul began to breathe for the first time. He is kind and amazing, a perfect fit for my children and a charming grandfather. I never thought I could find such profound love.”

Two months later, he made their bond even more magical with a spring proposal. “David showers me with affection every day and tells me I’m beautiful,” Christine shared with People. “I have never experienced love like this before, and the world seems brighter now that he is in it.”

They got married in Utah on October 7, and she expressed her gratitude by saying, “I am truly blessed! I have married my best friend.

Janelle Brown’s eldest child, Janelle, was the first of her 18 siblings to get married. In 2016, she tied the knot with Caleb Brush at an outdoor wedding in Montana that was filmed by TLC. Four years following their appearance on the TLC reality show, Meri’s sole child established residence in Denver with Audrey Kriss.

In 2022, Leon gushed about their partner, saying, “You are my most beautiful melody,” and went on to express, “Living life with you is nothing short of sweetness itself.” Audrey mirrored these sentiments, stating, “It’s a privilege and joy to be your partner, witnessing your growth and self-discovery over the years.

In 2022, Logan Brown, the eldest child in the Brown family, reunited his group after marrying his longtime sweetheart, Michelle Petty, in Arizona. On Instagram, Janelle shared her feelings about the wedding, saying it was a beautiful day and that her heart melted throughout the entire event. She expressed that one always feels a sense of tranquility when children find exceptional life partners.

Approaching more than six years since her 2016 marriage to Antonio “Tony” Padron, Mykelti playfully admitted that they’d put their wedding vows to the test by adding twins Archer and Ace to their family in November 2022. On Instagram, she shared, “We have three children and four moves behind us. Many joyful moments and some challenging ones #surprisetwins Yet, we’re still navigating this marriage journey together.”

Ever since tying the knot back in 2018, my eldest daughter and her husband, Mitch Thompson, have been jet-setting to destinations as diverse as Paris and Alaska. However, come December 2022, they decided it was time to settle down. As Mitch announced on Instagram, “We’ve finally found our first home, just in time for Christmas!

Aspyn announced her pregnancy with the couple’s first baby in April 2025.

Prior to completing their first year, Christine’s third-born daughter and partner, Beatriz Queiroz, visited the most joyful destination on earth. They celebrated six months of their relationship with a chocolate fondue. The heartwarming moment followed when Gwendlyn offered a peek at the romantic, candlelit proposal adorned with roses on Instagram in November 2022, stating delightfully, “I’m engaged!!”. In July 2023, they got married and shared a photo from their ceremony with the caption: “Meet Mrs. Queiroz (twice)”.
