The article appears about two years since Meri parted ways with her former spouse, Kody Brown, following a long period of distance within their multi-spouse union. Although she was Kody’s initial spouse, having tied the knot in 1990, they formally divorced in 2014 to enable Kody to adopt Robyn Brown’s children from her prior relationship.
Meri, mother of Leon Brown, was one of Kody’s three wives to part ways with him, following Christine Brown and Janelle Brown who separated from Kody in 2021 and 2022, respectively, ending their long-term spiritual relationships with the father of 18.

When Robyn found herself seeking a new home in Arizona, I was among those who contributed towards the purchase of her stunning $1.65 million, five-bedroom property – a house that had recently been put up for sale in August.
Initially, Robyn mentioned that the property would benefit the entire family. However, when Janelle proposed that they all be co-signers on the mortgage, she was met with resistance. Speaking about Coyote Pass’s unpaid bills, Janelle pointed out that Kody often mentioned having numerous other debts. And it’s important to note that I don’t necessarily hold her responsible for this. Instead, I believe that various individuals develop unique coping mechanisms to stay afloat in life.
Yet, he further explained, “If it is truly in her mind that we were unfairly treating her or her children despite the fact she was often favored by Dad and we diligently worked to foster relationships with her kids, if she genuinely believes this, then there’s no prospect of my ever maintaining a relationship with Robyn.
During a September 29th broadcast, Kody shared that his frequent moves between four homes significantly impacted his eighteen children. He recounted an instance where his and Robyn’s youngest daughter, Ariella born in January 2016, held tightly onto him as he was about to depart.
Kody expressed, “‘I have another spouse who requires me, another mother for her children. Other kids depend on me to be there,’ he said. Meanwhile, she clung to him, crying, ‘Don’t abandon me, Daddy, don’t leave me.’ It’s a tough situation, he added.

I’ve always felt that Kody and Robyn mishandled this situation with their kids. He couldn’t stay away longer than three or four days as Ari would become upset. To me, it seemed like subpar parenting. Throughout the family’s history, other children have dealt with similar situations and they’ve turned out to be well-adjusted adults.
Among the not many young people of Brown descent, Mykelti maintained strong relationships with both Robyn, Kody, and also Christine and Janelle. In the midst of Kody’s divorces, Mykelti stepped up as a mediator or peacemaker to help smooth out any tensions.
From the very beginning, Mykelti felt close to Robyn after she joined the Brown family. In fact, Mykelti extended an invitation for Robyn to be present at the birth of her twins, Archer and Ace, in November 2022.
During the September 29th episode, Mykelti shared that when Robyn initially became part of our family, I was still trying to understand myself. However, she managed to make me feel unique and recognized. In times of need, Robyn was present for me. She was there when I needed someone to listen to me, to care for me.
As an overjoyed fan, I can’t contain my excitement when I reflect on the day Robyn joined our family and it became evident that she and Mykelti shared a fantastic bond. On the October 6 episode, Christine herself expressed this sentiment: “When Robyn came into our family, it was exactly what I had dreamed of.” You see, when I envisioned having a plural family, I yearned for my children to have strong relationships with other mothers. And now, that dream is becoming a beautiful reality!
Kody expressed that it isn’t just his wives who have cut him out of their lives; instead, he believes they are intentionally excluding him as a form of retribution for a crime he didn’t commit. During the October 6 episodes, he shared this perspective on his strained relationship with some of his older children. Essentially, he feels that his only ‘crime’ is not having fallen deeply in love with their mothers.
What’s more, he continued, he think his former spouses are a bit to blame.
He mentioned that the strain in his relationship with his children is predominantly a mental struggle due to negative comments. Essentially, he feels that the dissolution of the family has left him with a sense of guilt and blame, as if his mistakes were the cause.
However, although he acknowledges carrying some responsibility, he strongly objects to the derogatory remarks. Notably, he confided that he had difficulties bonding with Hunter, Maddie, and Gabriel. Kody disclosed that one of his children replied to a text message with something along the lines of “You are worthless. I wouldn’t talk to you again even if I tried.
In another occurrence, he expressed to the cameras, “One of my children recently said to me, ‘You’re behaving badly. I’ll no longer speak with you. You’ve been deceiving me and indoctrinating me.’
He’s unwilling to handle the venom any longer, as he stated, “I won’t keep reaching out indefinitely.” Noting his belief that adults should take responsibility for fixing the issues at hand, he added, “I’m prepared to put forth the effort, but someone else must be willing to reciprocate and make an effort too.
For Robyn, watching Kody’s estrangement from his adult children hit far too close to home.
In the October 6th episode, she shared that her parents divorced when she was young. This meant her father lived with another woman in a different city, while her mother lived on her own. She vividly recalled asking him why he wasn’t around when she was younger, only to receive excuses that felt flimsy and unsatisfying. It was a difficult time for her.
She wouldn’t let his wounded emotions hinder his efforts. During their intense argument, which occurred towards the end of 2022, she admitted, “I find it hard not to feel like I’m losing a bit of respect for you.
Even though Kody admitted that he could improve his relationship with his children, he mentioned that he must fix his own heart before making progress in their relationship.
He admitted that some of his children appear to be conspiring against him, and he explained, “I’m so enraged by what has transpired that when I speak with my kids, I fear they might provoke me with an accusation. At the moment, I’m too emotionally charged. All I can do is cause further harm.
At Logan’s wedding to Michelle Petty in October 2022, while most of the family was present, it seemed that the affection wasn’t particularly strong among them.
In the October 6th episode, Kody expressed his displeasure to Robyn, stating that he had noticed Madison hastily taking her children away from him. He mentioned that his daughter hadn’t shared with him that she was expecting her third child, a daughter named Josephine, who was born in February 2023. She values her children’s safety greatly, and since Kody hasn’t been around since Evie was born, which is now three-and-a-half years ago, she didn’t want him to suddenly appear as ‘your grandpa’, causing confusion among the kids who wouldn’t recognize him.
Kody expressed that it’s impractical for grandparents to be constantly involved in their grandchildren’s lives, considering the situation of Maddie living in North Carolina. He pointed out that moving one’s children to an entirely different coast often means having personal commitments and work in other locations, like Flagstaff in this case.

After the COVID situation had settled down and we returned to our regular routines, there was still tension within our family as Kody felt that his sons owed him and specifically Robyn an apology. Out of his six children with Janelle, Kody mainly interacts with their youngest child, Savanah. He doesn’t see them often, but approximately every two months he contacts her and they spend time together. The other kids don’t seem to have much of a relationship with him.
