The studio responsible for the skateboarding game “Skate” has shared a tighter launch schedule for its upcoming multiplayer skateboarding title. In their latest installment of The Grind blog series, they’ve also disclosed that it’s now possible to add “Skate” to your wishlist on PC (Steam and Epic Game Store), Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 before its anticipated Summer 2025 release.
On the Steam page for “Skate”, the developers have mentioned they’re uncertain about the exact duration of its stay in Early Access, but they anticipate that the complete version of the game might be available approximately one year following the release of the Early Access edition.
As an enthusiast, I can share that the studio communicated that there’s no set deadline for leaving Early Access. Instead, they plan to continually refine and enhance the game based on player input. They anticipate approaching a ‘full’ release around a year from the start of Early Access, but they don’t have an exact date yet.
As a gamer, I’m super excited for the Early Access launch of Skate! The studio calls it the “essentials,” and that means we’re getting a revamped Flick-It trick system where we can pull off skateboarding moves using the analog sticks on our controllers. Plus, there will be multiplayer content set in the vibrant city of San Vansterdam for us to enjoy together!
Initially, the game will offer a vast, interconnected city environment for exploration, capable of accommodating over 150 players simultaneously within a single server. It will also feature cross-platform multiplayer functionality and allow progress transference between different platforms. In terms of in-game experiences, players can expect story missions, skill-enhancing challenges, and regularly updated seasonal events. These activities offer cosmetic rewards, which can be used to personalize both the player’s skateboarder character and their skateboards.
In simpler terms, it’s been announced that the latest playtest for Skate Insider (the game) will incorporate many aspects from its Early Access launch, such as enhanced visuals, missions, challenges, progression, and rewards systems. This update will also offer UI improvements, a more straightforward tutorial, and will be released on July 2nd, taking the game to version 0.27.0.
In their recent update titled “The Grind,” the studio expressed gratitude for all the testers who shared their feedback on what they enjoy, desire more of, and would like to see improved. They emphasized that they are attentive to these suggestions and will collaborate with the community to develop, refine, and enhance the game skate, starting from its Early Access launch later this year and throughout the Early Access phase.
Skate is set to launch on PC and consoles as a free-to-play game, incorporating microtransactions for the purchase of cosmetic items within the game using real money. Back in March, developers Full Circle began testing these transactions, introducing an in-game store and a new currency called San Van Bucks.
