Slitterhead Was Originally Meant to be Open World

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but be intrigued by the latest offering from the brilliant mind of Keiichiro Toyama and his team at Bokeh Game Studio – Slitterhead. The eerie visuals and the unique body-swapping mechanic have already piqued my interest, but what really caught my attention was the revelation that this game could have been an open-world experience.

As a big fan of Keiichiro Toyama and his team at Bokeh Game Studio, I’m thrilled to share that they are working on a new horror game called Slitterhead, which is set to be released later this year. Unlike their previous works like Silent Hill, Siren, and Gravity Rush, Slitterhead promises to offer a unique twist on the genre with its action-horror approach and a captivating body-swapping mechanic. Intriguingly enough, if certain events had unfolded differently, this game would have featured an open world experience in addition to its innovative mechanics.

In a recent conversation with VGC, Toyama shared that the initial concept for “Slitterhead’s” creation involved an open world design. However, due to budget constraints, the team opted against this approach and instead chose a mission-based format. According to Toyama, this change proved beneficial for the gameplay experience.

“Early on in the development process, we considered creating an open-world game environment,” he explained. “However, given our budget constraints, it wasn’t a feasible option. Instead, this limitation proved beneficial, as it led to focused mission designs and a clearer narrative progression.”

Slitterhead is due out on November 8 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
