Slow Horses renewed for season 6 on Apple TV+ as Gary Oldman returns

As a devoted fan of gripping spy thrillers and captivating character-driven narratives, I am absolutely thrilled about the renewal of Slow Horses for yet another season! Having immersed myself in Mick Herron’s mesmerizing novels, I can confidently say that the show has truly brought these tales to life with an exceptional cast and gripping storylines.

After receiving critical acclaim for its fourth season and with the fifth season set to premiere next year, the Apple TV+ spy series “Slow Horses” has been renewed again, but this time with a minor twist:

Instead of following a chronological approach per book as with earlier seasons, the sixth installment will blend elements from both the sixth and seventh books in Mick Herron’s series, specifically Joe Country and Slough House.

It’s yet unclear if this method will be divided into two separate phases or if the narratives will be combined when put into action. The specifics are still undecided.

In the summary for season 6, the “Slow Horses” are found in a dangerous predicament as Diana Taverner pulls them into a perilous game of counterattack and vengeance with potentially lethal stakes.

Jay Hunt, creative director for Apple TV+ in Europe, expressed in a statement: “Folks worldwide have developed a deep affection for the Slow Horses, and I’m thrilled that Gary Oldman will be spearheading this talented ensemble on another sharp and thrilling journey.

In the upcoming season, Oldman is set to reprise his role as Jackson Lamb. The ensemble cast, which includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Samuel West, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, Joanna Scanlan and Jonathan Pryce, is expected to return for the new season. However, it remains uncertain if all of them will appear in season 6.

Unlike past seasons that were overseen by showrunner Will Smith for television adaptation, this upcoming season is being supervised by co-executive producer Gaby Chiappe instead. Interestingly, Adam Randall who directed season 4 will be back to direct season 6. Notably absent from the new season’s executive producer list is Will Smith.

Previously, Smith showed enthusiasm for expanding the remaining books in Herron’s series, consisting of eight novels at present, with a ninth one under development.

He mentioned that Mick is currently working on the ninth one, although we’ll need to wait and see how things develop. It all depends on Apple’s preferences and public demand, but I tend to lean towards a ‘leave-them-wanting-more’ approach rather than overstaying my welcome. The world of the show is rich with potential for further exploration.

The fifth season of the show has already been filmed, and is expected to be released next year.
