Slow Horses season 4 kicks off with major character death – but there’s a twist

As a long-time fan of Slow Horses, I must say that the latest twist in the series has left me both shocked and intrigued. Having followed River since the beginning, it was heart-wrenching to see him potentially meet his end in such a tragic manner. However, as a seasoned viewer of this show, I’ve learned not to trust appearances too easily. The fact that Jackson Lamb played along with the deception only added fuel to the fire of speculation.

***WARNING: Contains major spoilers for Slow Horses season 4 episode 1.***

The hit espionage series “Slow Horses” has made its grand return on Apple TV+, kicking things off with an explosive premiere that took a jaw-dropping twist from the start

The show started by revealing Roddy observing a terroristic explosion at the Westacres mall, following River and Louisa purchasing drinks. Moved by his revelation about his grandfather David’s dementia, she persuaded him to pay him a visit

In different turns of events, David felt uneasy as he suspected he was being trailed, and took refuge with a firearm. Meanwhile, unseen by us, River entered the dwelling and made their way upstairs to the bathroom

Becoming nervous that this ‘River’ wasn’t who he claimed to be, David went upstairs and shot him dead! He then panicked, as he realised he had accidentally killed his grandson.

As the episode progressed, David disappeared and MI5 started searching for him, all the while, Jackson Lamb verified the deceased person was indeed River, as he had been killed

Upon hearing the news, the Slough House team felt a deep sense of loss, especially Louisa, who harbored feelings of guilt for suggesting that River pay a visit to his grandfather, which seemed to have led him to his demise

Actually, things didn’t unfold exactly as they seemed – it turns out that River wasn’t truly deceased, but rather, David had murdered a stand-in. Seizing the moment, River chose to vanish and conduct her own investigation instead

As soon as Jackson laid eyes on the lifeless body, he quickly devised River’s strategy. He pretended to go along with it all, concealing both River and his own actions, to ensure her safety and maintain secrecy

It’s uncertain yet whether River’s plan will unfold as expected or not, but we might learn more about it when the upcoming episode airs next week

Fans might assume River is dead, given the show’s history of offing its beloved characters. For instance, Olivia Cooke’s character Sid Baker hasn’t been seen since she was shot at the end of season 1, and Dustin Demri-Burns’ Min Harper met her demise in season 2

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, 4th September, as the fourth season of Slow Horses will be available for streaming on Apple TV+. Don’t miss out; sign up today!
