As a long-time fan of British espionage dramas and a connoisseur of Gary Oldman’s exceptional acting skills, I am absolutely thrilled about the fourth season of Slow Horses on Apple TV+! The blend of humor and intrigue is always a delight, and the ensemble cast is truly outstanding. From The Dark Knight to House of the Dragon, these talented actors never disappoint.
Apple TV+ has unveiled the trailer for the fourth season of the humorous British spy series “Slow Horses.” Featuring a stellar cast that includes Gary Oldman from “The Dark Knight,” Kristin Scott Thomas (“The English Patient”), and Olivia Cooke (“House of the Dragon”), this show presents a team of MI5 agents who are far from the UK’s version of the Avengers. Instead, they’re more like the misfit groups from “Guardians of the Galaxy” or “Legends of Tomorrow,” a group of endearing underdogs trying to protect England from nefarious threats while navigating their own office politics and incompetence.
Most of these characters are quite endearing, although Jackson tends to be rather unappealing for much of the time. Here’s a glimpse in the trailer below.
Before the second season premiered, it was discovered that the website egmr.ru had previously conversed with Oldman regarding the series “Slow Horses“. We inquired about his perspective on portraying a fictional character compared to historical figures. Oldman acknowledged that it’s enjoyable to have some flexibility to bring life to the storyline.
In simpler terms, when dealing with a character based on real life such as Joe Orton from the film “Prick Up Your Ears,” there are living relatives. This means you have more limitations in how you portray that character compared to a fictional one like an orange-haired character where you can be creative without restrictions. When playing a real person, especially those who still have family alive, there’s a sense of responsibility to represent them accurately and make their families proud.
“Slow Horses is hinting at a thrilling storyline for its fourth season: This darkly comical spy series revolves around a group of inept British intelligence agents stationed at Slough House, a department derisively known as the ‘dumping ground.’ The story kicks off with an explosion that exposes hidden truths, causing turmoil and further instability within this already unsteady team.”
For Season 4, we have some new additions to the cast: Hugo Weaving, Joanna Scanlan, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brook, and James Callis join us. You might recognize a few familiar faces alongside Oldman too. Among those returning are Kristin Scott Thomas, Sasha Reeves, Jack Bowden, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Jonathan Pryce, and Kadiff Kirwan.
