Slow Horses star teases resolution to season 3 cliffhanger: ‘It’s not happening the way she imagined’

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for gripping spy dramas and a soft spot for complex characters, I’ve been eagerly following the twists and turns of Slow Horses. The cliffhanger at the end of season 3 involving Catherine Standish had me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would become of her decision to quit MI5.

Each installment of Slow Horses usually focuses on a unique, standalone tale, but certain narrative strands persist across seasons. The final episode of season 3 left a suspenseful cliffhanger involving one of the main characters.

In one of the last episodes of the season, Saskia Reeves’ character, Catherine Standish, had a heated disagreement with Gary Oldman’s character, Jackson Lamb. This confrontation ultimately led to her resigning from Slough House and leaving MI5 altogether.

Currently, it’s revealed that Reeves, set to reappear in season 4, has given us a sneak peek into how the season-ending cliffhanger might be unraveled. Moreover, there are hints suggesting that Standish’s initial decision to leave may not last long.

Reeves went on to say: “Her strategies seem to veer off from what she anticipated, and the effect of her leaving wasn’t as significant as she expected.”

“From what I can gather, Lamb seems unwilling to sign her resignation papers. It’s typical for things with these individuals to lack clarity; they often take on a vague, ambiguous quality. As a result, the process of leaving feels uncertain and unclear, not at all as she had anticipated. That’s about all I can comment on at this stage.”

It’s yet undecided if Standish will appear in the upcoming fifth season of the series, so viewers should continue tuning in as new episodes roll out from September through October.

As a dedicated fan, I’m excitedly sharing the news that Showrunner Will Smith hints at potential continuation beyond the fifth season. In his own words, “the world of this series is rich and waiting to be explored further” – should the creative team and Apple TV+ decide to adapt all of Mick Herron’s novels for our viewing pleasure.

Apple TV+ is set to debut Slow Horses season 4 starting September 4th. Be sure to subscribe now!
