Smile 2's Official Runtime Revealed

As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast, I’ve seen my fair share of chilling experiences that have left me sleepless nights. The upcoming sequel to the terrifying “Smile,” titled “Smile 2,” is no exception. With an extended runtime of 2 hours and 1 minute, it promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats for a slightly longer duration than its predecessor.

The “Smile” series carries on with the premiere of “Smile 2” on October 18th, and we now have information about how long this chilling horror sequel will keep audiences grinning during their theater visit. As per “Bloody Disgusting”, “Smile 2” has an official running time of 2 hours and 1 minute (excluding credits), which is slightly longer than the 2022 release of “Smile”.

In the movie titled “Smile 2“, global pop star Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), who’s just about to start a world tour, starts encountering mysterious and frightening occurrences. As these incidents grow more intense and her life becomes even more stressful due to fame, Skye is compelled to confront her troubled past in order to reclaim control over her life before it becomes unmanageable.

The movie earned a 2-star smile from reviewers, along with praise for performances by Scott, Kyle Gallner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lukas Gage, Dylan Gelula, Raul Castillo, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley. Parker Finn is the man behind the camera, directing this film.

Earlier on, Finn admitted to ComicBook that he hadn’t anticipated Smile growing into a series, and was taken aback when the initial movie turned out to be successful, paving the way for a potential sequel.

In 2022, Finn remarked, “The Smile was designed to stand alone, with its own narrative thread. Honestly, I never imagined there’d be such an overwhelming appetite for a sequel. However, upon reflection, I believe there are certain aspects within the movie that were intentionally left open-ended, which could make for fascinating exploration. Additionally, there were elements from the initial production that I didn’t have the opportunity to include due to budget restrictions or story fit, and I think revisiting those ideas would be quite intriguing.”

He went on to say, “I don’t want to simply rehash what I’ve already done or repeat myself, but I believe there’s potential for a fascinating expansion in the realm of Smile. It could offer something completely unexpected and thrilling to audiences, with plenty of hidden twists.”

Who is Returning for Smile 2?

So far, it’s just Gallner’s character Joel from Smile 2 that has been confirmed to return in a substantial role. On the other hand, Kal Penn, who played Dr. Desai in the original film, has mentioned earlier that he won’t be part of the sequel.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Penn stated, “As far as I am aware, I won’t be in the sequel, but if they asked, I’d definitely say yes. That movie was fantastic, and it was originally titled ‘There’s Something Wrong With Rose.’ It was a low-budget horror film that we primarily shot in New Jersey. Given my roots there and my fondness for horror, it felt very appealing to me. The script was terrific, and the way it gained popularity, I was thrilled not just for the cast members like Sosie [Bacon] and the director, but also for the horror fans who embraced it. Frankly, we didn’t even anticipate a theatrical release, but it happened. So, I’m eagerly awaiting the second one, as a fan.”

Smile 2 is set to open in theaters on October 18th.
