For the first time since Nintendo Switch Online was launched back in September 2018, a game from the service is being taken down – specifically, an SNES classic title. Unlike previous additions of NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, or classic Sega games to Nintendo Switch Online, this is the first time one has been removed without any stated reason. Currently, only subscribers in Japan and South Korea are affected, but it’s likely that users in North America and Europe may experience the same soon.
On March 28th, the SNES game is being taken down from Nintendo Switch Online service. This gives players a whole month’s notice beforehand. After this date, users won’t be able to play the game anymore, as it will no longer be available in any form. The reason for this removal could be due to rights or licensing issues, and if that’s the case, then similar removals can be expected in North America and Europe. Currently, only Nintendo Switch Online users in Japan and South Korea have been affected, with Super Soccer being unavailable to them.
Due to the SNES game’s removal from Nintendo Switch Online, it will no longer be available for purchase or download on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Essentially, this means that you won’t be able to buy the game directly, and instead, it will simply vanish from all Nintendo Switch consoles.
For people who haven’t heard about it before, Super Soccer originally came out in 1991 as one of Human Entertainment’s initial football/soccer games. Sadly, this studio shut down in 2000. The sales figures for the SNES game aren’t known, but it received a GameRankings score of 79%. Recently, in summer 2021, it became available on Nintendo Switch Online.
