Saturday Night Live‘s biggest stars are taking a walk down memory lane.
The peacock, known as NBC, unveiled the initial teaser for “SNL50: Going Beyond Saturday Nights,” an upcoming documentary that honors the significant 50-year run of the popular NBC sketch comedy program.
The upcoming four-part series is going to showcase perspectives and conversations with approximately 60 participants who have previously worked on the show, as well as famous faces like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Tracy Morgan, Seth Meyers, Will Ferrell, Molly Shannon, Andy Samberg, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kenan Thompson, Bowen Yang, and Fred Armisen, to name a few. Each episode will employ a unique artistic style to explore the rich history of Saturday Night Live while highlighting some of its most memorable sketches, as suggested by the streaming service.
In the preview that was released on January 7th, Morgan remarks, “Comedy is something anyone can attempt, yet I could instruct everyone present on how to craft jokes and perform comedy. However, are you naturally humorous?
Currently, Jimmy Fallon reminisces about his famous cowbell skit with 2000’s host Christopher Walken. As the Tonight Show host beams, “It’s more than I ever dared to imagine that they’re creating a documentary about the cowbell routine.
Apart from previously recognized celebrities, the documentary will also include untold tales from past authors and team members, along with previous guests such as Tom Hanks, offering a fresh perspective.
Plus, stars like Poehler, Samberg and Pete Davidson look back at their cringy audition tapes.
“Davidson remembers it as a scary experience,” he said about the tryouts. Meanwhile, Samberg commented, “My initial audition made me sick to my stomach.
As the record-holder for longest-running SNL cast member, there I am, still grinning after all these years, jokingly exclaiming, “Can you believe it? I’m amazingly here, laughing and joking with you all!
Regardless of the joy I found on stage during performances, the pressure brewing backstage was often close to overflowing, with sudden revisions to sketches, internal rivalries among the troupe, and unyielding deadlines adding fuel to the fire.
This way, it conveys the same meaning but in a more conversational first-person narrative style.

The special event, titled “SNL50: Going Beyond Saturday Night,” airs on January 16th, exclusively on Peacock. Additionally, delve into some of the show’s unforgettable and surprising celebrity guest hosts in the following passage.
10 hosting stints, including the initial remote-filmed episode during the coronavirus pandemic in April 2020, prove that when “America’s Dad” is at Studio 8H, it’s a guaranteed good time. Can’t trust us? Just consider the name: David S. Pumpkins.
In 2008, Hamm amazed audiences with his impressive comic skills during his debut hosting stint. Since then, he’s hosted twice more and made unexpected appearances on several occasions.
In simple terms, from his memorable “Jon Hamm’s John Ham” skit – you recall, the lunch meat consumed while on the toilet – to his live-action portrayal of Ace in the reinterpretation of the well-known Ambiguously Gay Duo animated skit, he has won over the cast in a manner that very few other hosts have achieved.
Without a doubt, there’s hardly anyone as dedicated to their work as the legendary figure from Bridesmaids. For instance, take her debut as a host in 2011, where she drenched herself in Hidden Valley ranch dressing during the “Taste Test” sketch – just to pull off a joke.
Within just under a decade, she has managed to gain entry into the notorious Five-Timers Club, and also started appearing frequently on occasion, when the notably agitated Sean Spicer held his position within the Trump administration.
Almost every star on this roster could have comfortably joined the main cast of Saturday Night Live (SNL). For a while, it appeared that Justin Timberlake might actually do so. From “Omeletteville,” “Dick in a Box,” and the “Barry Gibb Talk Show” to “Mother Lover,” each of Timberlake’s five stints as host left lasting impressions on pop culture. And his performance as one of Beyoncé’s backup dancers in “Single Ladies,” alongside Bobby Moynihan and Andy Samberg, was truly spectacular.
Few individuals have had the privilege of hosting SNL more than the iconic comedian; in fact, there’s just one exceptional case. Over his 16 appearances at Studio 8H from 1976 to 2009, he brought iconic characters to life (like the “wild and crazy” Festrunk Brothers and King Tut), and provided one of the show’s most touching moments when he paid tribute to Gilda Radner’s passing from cancer by revisiting a delightful dance they shared within the studio.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d say that not only have I found myself becoming a cherished member of the Saturday Night Live (SNL) clan due to my relationship with Colin Jost, but my six appearances on the show since my debut in 2006 have left an indelible mark, creating moments that continue to resonate.
She’s been ready to take over whenever the show required someone to fill in for Ivanka Trump, starred in the bizarre “Shud the Mermaid” skit alongside Kate McKinnon, and portrayed Lexi (Fred Armisen’s Mark’s daughter) in the popular sketch where they sell chandeliers, ceramic busts, marble columns, and porcelain fountains together.
As an ardent admirer, let me share an extraordinary tale that sets my heart ablaze. Unlike other names on this esteemed roster, the legendary TV figurehead graced the stage of Saturday Night Live (SNL) merely once. Yet, this octogenarian sensation etched her name in the annals of SNL history as its oldest host ever. This unforgettable appearance was nothing less than a dream come true, ignited by a triumphant Facebook campaign that echoed the collective passion of fans following her captivating role in The Proposal.
But wait, there’s more! This iconic lady has also earned her spot on this list because she was nothing short of side-splittingly hilarious. My personal favorite sketch from the episode is a whimsical one where Tina Fey, as a census taker, tirelessly attempts to extract a coherent response from none other than our beloved star. The absurdity and wit in that performance left me gasping for breath from laughter!
Johnson gained entry into the exclusive Five-Timer’s Club by accepting the role in “The Rock Obama.” This fact alone secured his place on the list. In other words, there was no need for further explanation.
As a die-hard enthusiast, it’s hard for me not to gush about Alec Baldwin! With an impressive 17 hosting stints under his belt and countless appearances as none other than former President Donald Trump, he might just be the star most synonymous with Saturday Night Live. From timeless skits like Canteen Boy and Schweddy Balls, to spot-on impressions of Tony Bennett and, indeed, Trump, Alec has consistently delivered a treasure trove of laughter during his countless visits to Studio 8H.
