As a long-time follower of Saturday Night Live (SNL), I must say that my experiences with the show have been as diverse as the cast itself. From laughter-filled nights to heartbreaking moments, SNL has truly shown me the highs and lows of entertainment.
Live from New York, it’s… a total jerk.
On Saturday Night Live, it’s common to see big-name celebrities as hosts, but as shared by cast member Bowen Yang, behind the scenes, there have been serious incidents involving these guest stars. For instance, a past host reportedly made several crew members cry during preparations for the live show in a non-humorous way.
On the August 11th episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Yang referred to someone as “this individual” or “the host,” without explicitly naming him. He mentioned that this person caused several cast members to cry earlier on Wednesday, as they presented their ideas, because he disliked them.
In summary, the actor from “Wicked,” who became a part of the team in 2018, used just one word to sum up his experience: “Awful.”
The popular series makes its comeback on NBC on September 28 for its momentous 50th season, although no future star guests have been confirmed as of yet, there’s a lot of buzz surrounding it. For example, Olympian Ilona Maher playfully expressed her interest in hosting during a recent visit to 30 Rock for Late Night With Seth Meyers on August 12. As the bronze medal-winning rugby player quipped on Instagram, “Trying to sneak my way into SNL at NBC.”
The previous season of the show was packed with big-name talent, including Timothée Chalamet, Jason Momoa, Adam Driver, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Jacob Elordi, Dakota Johnson, and Ayo Edebiri, taking on various roles. Additionally, several familiar faces returned to host, such as Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, among others.
Hosting Saturday Night Live (SNL) is a highly respected role, but don’t be fooled by its glamorous image – it can sometimes go less smoothly than expected. For instance, Sydney Sweeney, the star of Euphoria, who took over in March, once revealed that her opening monologue didn’t go as planned during her stint on the show.
After her performance, she shared with TopMob News that her mouth became incredibly dry during the monologue, almost as if it had stuck to her teeth. She even found herself attempting to lick her own teeth, which only added to the discomfort. Oh my goodness, it was a truly dreadful experience and I’m still shaking from it. It was quite intense.
