The upcoming episode of “Solo Leveling” promises the long-anticipated fight between protagonist Jinwoo and the formidable Ant King. While previous Season 2 Episode 11 provided a tantalizing sneak peek at this daunting new adversary, who has the potential to overwhelm even the mighty S-rank hunters, fans are left breathless in anticipation of how Jinwoo will fare against him. For those familiar with the manhwa, the Ant King is a cherished character who goes by the name Beru later on. With the latest episode release, it’s been hinted that this popular villain may have a more sinister side than fans remember, and events could have unfolded quite differently had Jinwoo not intervened on Jeju Island.
In a recent post on DC Inside, a prominent South Korean online forum, the creator of Solo Leveling, Chugong, revealed that Beru, or the Ant King, originally harbored much more malicious intentions than what was portrayed in Season 2 Episode 11. Instead of swiftly killing the Korean S-rank hunters as the Japanese S-rank hunters did outside, the Ant King dismembered them instead, leaving many injured but alive when he left to fight Goto Ryuji. However, contrary to the impression of mercy given in the episode, Chugong clarified that this was not a show of compassion from the Ant King. Instead, his intentions were far more sinister; he intended to slowly torture and torment the Korean S-rank hunters as punishment for killing the Queen Ant. If Jinwoo hadn’t intervened, Beru would have continued with this cruel plan. In fact, Chugong described Beru’s actions as “tearing the wings off a dragonfly,” which encapsulates his dark and malicious nature perfectly and highlights how sinister this beloved character could have been if the story had unfolded differently.
Solo Leveling’s Creator Reveals the Ant King’s True Evil Plan
In contrast to Season 1 where intelligent magical beasts were seldom seen, the new season of Solo Leveling has introduced numerous magical creatures exhibiting both intelligence and emotions, such as Baruka and the ice elves, Kargalgan and the orcs, Esil and the demons, and more recently the Ant King, also known as Beru. As Baruka disclosed earlier in the series, these magical beasts are compelled to kill humans due to a mysterious voice commanding them to do so. However, this isn’t true for the Ant King, who appears driven by revenge following the death of his queen whom he was tasked with protecting.
In Episode 11, titled “The Ant King,” we find that this character, initially referred to as the Ant King, later known as Beru, turns aggressive against the elite Korean hunters following a brief pause over the deceased Queen’s body. This suggests that his actions were driven primarily by a desire for revenge rather than an instinctual need to destroy all humans. Intriguingly, the author of “Solo Leveling,” Chugong, reveals in a post that the Ant King intended to seek revenge not just on the Korean hunters but also by eradicating their entire race. According to Chugong’s statement, had our protagonist not been present, the Ant King would have tormented the Korean hunters and then set out to wipe out all Koreans.
The Ant King’s True Intentions Explain Byung-Gu’s Death
The subtle detail that the Ant King intended to single out Koreans is what makes Min Byung-gu the unique S-rank hunter who was not just injured but actually consumed, while others survived with only fatal wounds. Chugong’s post suggests that the Ant King did not eliminate Byung-gu for his healing abilities or because he was a healer himself, rather, it appears that the Ant King wanted to obtain information and establish communication with the Koreans who had killed the Queen Ant by killing Byung-gu.
According to Chugong’s post, “He consumed Min Byung-gu’s head not because he disliked his healing abilities or sought his powers, but to communicate with the species responsible for the Queen’s death (the Koreans) and gather information. His ultimate goal was to eliminate that race.
As I delve deeper into the captivating world of “Solo Leveling,” I can’t help but marvel at the intricate layers of character development. It’s become crystal clear that the Ant King, who we’ve grown fond of for his love of historical dramas and soft-hearted nature, was once a far more ruthless character than anyone could have guessed.
In an uncanny echo of Byung-gu’s voice, the Ant King taunts Baek Yoon-ho, a chilling reminder of the character’s hidden past. This revelation underscores the complexity of our beloved antagonist, making me ponder how the Jeju Arc might have unfolded had Jinwoo not intervened. The forthcoming episode promises to delve deeper into this intriguing what-if scenario, leaving me eagerly anticipating the unfolding events.
