Solo Leveling S2 Ditches Key Manhwa Scene!

In the Winter of 2025, Season 2 of “Solo Leveling” continues to be the most buzzed-about anime as it brings back the thrilling adventures of our protagonist, Jinwoo. The storyline is racing ahead, encompassing multiple arcs from the original comic. The season kicks off with the Red Gate Arc, where Jinwoo accompanies Songyi to a C-Rank dungeon intending to show her the brutalities within. However, he’s taken aback when the gate transforms into red. After a minor hiccup, Jinwoo successfully completes the dungeon solo. Subsequently, he embarks on a quest to collect more components for the Elixir of Life, which he aims to create for his mother. Following his second attempt at the Demon Castle Gate, all that remains for Jinwoo is the final ingredient.

– It’s clear to him now that he possesses the abilities required to attain the S-Rank status, and there’s no point in feigning otherwise anymore. When his powers were reassessed, they discovered his abilities were extraordinary – so much so that they couldn’t be quantified with any measuring device. This is characteristic of an S-Rank Hunter.
– Despite Jinwoo’s S-Rank status essentially being confirmed, the Hunters Association requires three days to formally announce it due to administrative procedures. During this time, they attempt to recruit him for a high-ranking position within the Association, but he declines Go Gunhee’s invitation and instead joins the mining team of the Hunters Guild.
– In an unexpected turn of events, Jinwoo ends up solo-clearing another dungeon once more. However, Episode 6 of Season 2 omits a crucial hint through Kargalgan that could have significant implications later on in the story.

Warning: Spoilers From the Solo Leveling Manhwa Ahead!

Kargalgan Figured Out Jinwoo’s Identity in the Solo Leveling Manhwa

In chapter 74 of the manga “Solo Leveling”, Kargalgan ponders, “Is it truly him…” However, the System interrupts this thought. This implies that Kargalgan had already recognized Jinwoo’s identity. Contrastingly, the anime alters this scene significantly. Instead of questioning his suspicion, the anime portrays a different original moment before Kargalgan’s death. In this version, he recalls two individuals from his past memories instead.

In the anime, it’s not explicitly shown, but it’s clear that they are the Shadow Monarch and Igris. The question posed by Kargalgan in the comic was a significant hint, as it foreshadowed that monsters can readily identify Jinwoo, yet the System continues to meddle. Kargalgan, despite appearing ordinary, is driven to kill humans due to an ongoing command that echoes within his mind.

Who Is the Shadow Monarch?

In the Season 1 finale, Jinwoo earned the title of Shadow Monarch, a role that’s yet to be fully clarified in the anime. However, the manhwa provides more insight into this title. The Shadow Monarch is said to possess ancient power dating back to when light and darkness first emerged. At that time, there were nine such Monarchs who possessed immense power, capable of challenging even the Rulers and other powerful entities in an ongoing conflict.

Jinwoo was initially intended to be a vessel for Ashborn, the genuine Shadow Monarch, but Ashborn deceived his fellow Monarchs instead. Impressed by Jinwoo’s resolve to survive, Ashborn granted him all his powers. In Season 3, we will see Jinwoo return to the Double Dungeon and fully awaken Ashborn’s powers.
