Solo Leveling Season 2 Has Made Some Big Changes From Its Source Material

In the winter season of 2025, “Solo Leveling” Season 2 has become the most-watched anime. It premiered on January 4th and has broadcasted two episodes so far. The series is set in a world where mysterious gates pose a threat to public safety. The narrative revolves around Sung Jinwoo, initially known as the weakest human hunter but who eventually becomes the strongest. The appearance of these gates led humans to develop extraordinary abilities to counter the danger they posed. Since conventional machinery doesn’t function against the monsters within the gates, humans have developed magical powers to combat them instead.

In the final season of “Solo Leveling,” it’s revealed that while other hunters can’t enhance their abilities no matter how much they practice, Jinwoo is an exception due to a mysterious system. By the end, Jinwoo acquires Necromancer skills and gains control over an undead army. With his enhanced power, he becomes capable of tackling any dangers that come his way. The initial two episodes follow the Red Gate Arc from the comic, but the anime moves at a quicker pace than the source material, leaving out certain scenes.

Solo Leveling Season 2 Excludes Scenes For Faster Pacing

In the first season of Solo Leveling, 45 chapters were condensed into 13 episodes, which resulted in decent tempo. However, the opening acts of the second season have already covered ten chapters from the manhwa, suggesting a quicker pace. This speed means that some scenes may not be included. In Chapter 46, prior to attending Jinah’s school for a parent-teacher meeting, Jinwoo first visits a bank to acquire a debit card and update his account. The bank employee is taken aback by the substantial amount of money Jinwoo carries.

In a later development, a scene was deleted from the storyline where Jinwoo encounters Jinah’s teacher for the first time, despite both having attended the same school. This scene took place without any prior introduction of the teacher. Moreover, in Chapter 48 of the manhwa, there is a sequence showing Woo Jinchul driving Hwang Dongsoo towards the Red Gate, during which Dongsoo queries about Jinchul’s brother’s funeral. Lastly, the anime version omits a scene where Jinwoo finishes his daily task within the dungeon.

1. In the conversation with other hunters, he warned them that there would be consequences if he didn’t carry out the task, leaving them speechless. This mirrors the incident in Chapter 55 where Jinho incorrectly assumed Jinwoo and Songyi were in a relationship due to a lack of clarification. In the anime, Jinho did not ask Jinwoo to confirm whether he should address Songyi as “miss”, and Jinwoo did not take the initiative to clear up the misconception by explaining that Songyi was merely his younger sister’s friend.

2. He threatened the other hunters with penalties if they didn’t let him do it, leaving them speechless, similar to Jinho failing to understand Jinwoo and Songyi’s relationship in Chapter 55 due to lack of explanation. In the anime, Jinho did not question whether he should call Songyi “miss”, and Jinwoo did not correct the misunderstanding by clarifying that she was just his younger sister’s friend.

3. He warned the other hunters about penalties if they didn’t let him proceed, leaving them speechless, much like Jinho in Chapter 55 who assumed Jinwoo and Songyi were in a relationship because he didn’t receive any clarification. In the anime, Jinho did not ask for confirmation before addressing Songyi as “miss”, and Jinwoo didn’t explain that she was just his younger sister’s friend to dispel the misunderstanding.

4. The first hunters were left speechless when he hinted at penalties if they didn’t follow through, resembling Jinho in Chapter 55 who mistakenly believed Jinwoo and Songyi had a romantic relationship due to lack of clarification. In the anime, Jinho did not ask for confirmation before addressing Songyi as “miss”, and Jinwoo did not correct the misunderstanding by explaining that she was just his younger sister’s friend.

In this anime adaptation, while it’s not skipping crucial moments entirely, it’s selectively omitting certain dialogue exchanges to advance the narrative more swiftly. The combat sequences appear somewhat abridged compared to the first season, yet they remain engaging overall. This second season endeavors to cover various story arcs such as the Red Gate, Demon Castle, Retesting Rank, Hunters Guild Gate, Return to Demon Castle, and potentially segments of the Jeju Island Arc.
