In March 2025, the anime adaptation of the acclaimed manhwa Solo Leveling concluded its second season, wrapping up the exhilarating finale of the Jeju Island Arc. Notably, when a widely-loved anime series ends its most recent season, the studio typically announces the renewal for the next chapter shortly after. Given the immense popularity of Solo Leveling, which shattered several streaming records during its second season, this was certainly the case. The second season kicked off with the Red Gate Arc, chronicling Jinwoo’s onward journey towards the pinnacle. Despite obtaining the powers of a Necromancer and being promoted to an S-Rank Hunter, he continued to ascend in levels. His story then led him back to the Demon Castle, where he gathered the last ingredient necessary for crafting an Elixir of Life.

With the mythical artifact clutched tightly, Jinwoo manages to revive his mother who had fallen into a timeless sleep several years prior. Despite achieving his objective, he persists in his role as a Hunter and ultimately agrees to participate in the Jeju Island Arc, despite an initial reluctance. On the island, he seizes command of events and vanquishes the Ant King single-handedly. In addition, his phantom troops eliminate countless ant-like monsters on the island. His odyssey is far from concluded and will carry on in Season 3. Regrettably, it has been announced that Season 3 will take more time than expected to arrive.

As an observer, I can’t help but share the same eagerness as Sota Furuhashi, the Aniplex producer, for ‘Solo Leveling’ Season 3! Given that over 220,000 frames of animation were meticulously crafted between Seasons 1 and 2, it seems like we might need to exercise a bit more patience, as I would personally prefer to see the story unfold flawlessly in 2028.

Solo Leveling Season 3 Could Be Released After 2028

On April 30th, Crunchyroll organized a For Your Consideration (FYC) event at the Wolf Theatre of the Television Academy, presenting its currently popular anime series, “Solo Leveling”. The attendees included Aniplex Producer Sota Furuhashi, Atsushi Kaneko – the animation producer of “Solo Leveling”, Aleks Le – the English voice actor of Jinwoo, and Michelle Rojas – the English voice actress for Haein Cha. They shared anecdotes from behind-the-scenes and expressed their aspirations for Season 3.

Furuhashi expresses his enthusiasm for a Season 3, stating, “I can’t hide my eagerness! However, it’s important to remember that between Seasons 1 and 2, an impressive amount of work was done – 220,000 frames of animation were created. I’d like to give the animators some time to rest.” He then adds, “If it were my decision, I would suggest waiting until the next Olympics before revealing what Season 3 has in store. But creating those 220,000 frames is Taneko-san and the A-1 Pictures team’s responsibility.

In response, Kaneko playfully quips, “Does that mean it’s my turn now?” He goes on to say, “Allow me to express, I too am intrigued to see what unfolds next.” Additionally, he shares that the global success of Solo Leveling has broadened his perspective, a viewpoint he lacked while working primarily in Japan.

As an eager fan, I’ve been anxiously waiting for any news about the next season of my favorite anime. Unlike the swift arrival of Season 2, a year after Season 1, it seems we might be in for a longer wait this time around. Furuhashi’s recent statement hints at a potential wait of three years or more, which is quite a stretch!

In an April 2025 TikTok post, Aleks Le also suggested that Season 3 won’t be making its debut anytime soon. Although he didn’t specify the exact timeline, it’s evident that we’ll have to be patient. The anticipation is high because Season 3 promises to delve deep into the enigmas hidden within this captivating world.

Given A-1 Pictures’ exceptional animation work in Season 2, I can understand why they might need more time to create a masterpiece worthy of our wait. I’m ready to binge-watch it when it finally arrives!
