In the popular series Solo Leveling, the long-awaited Jeju Island Arc has finally begun, yet our primary character is absent. A few years prior, an S-Rank Gate mysteriously appeared on the island, and despite numerous attempts, no one has been able to conquer it. This unchecked gate resulted in a catastrophic dungeon breach that still poses a threat today. Despite three failed attempts by Korea to quell the monster uprising, they have yet to succeed. Each raid has claimed its share of casualties, with the third one being so devastating that it may go down as one of Korea’s greatest tragedies. Among those deeply affected is Jongin Choi, who is determined to conquer the dungeon and restore order. It is largely due to his relentless pursuit that permission for the fourth Dungeon Raid has been granted.
The pace at which monsters are advancing is causing grave concern, making this encounter more perilous than past ones. Yet, Japanese Elite Hunters are stepping up to aid in the fight, providing crucial assistance for their task. Interestingly, South Korea has an additional S-Rank Hunter this time around – Jinwoo Sung. He’s known to be stronger than any other Hunter within the nation. While his recent status might suggest he should participate in the Dungeon Raid, he chooses to stay back, prioritizing family obligations. However, it’s not just about protecting his mother and sister; his decision runs deeper than that.
Solo Leveling’s Sung Jinwoo Refuses to Join the Jeju Island Raid
Jinwoo’s mother just emerged from a long sleep, so it’s understandable that he wouldn’t want to burden her with concerns about his career as a hunter, given the story suggests she might not approve of the risks involved. Although his mother never explicitly forbade him from becoming a hunter, her emotional trauma following the disappearance of his father during a dungeon raid years ago has left an indelible mark on their family, altering their peaceful household forever.
At a young age, Jinwoo found himself bearing a heavy responsibility that likely caused his mother great concern. To alleviate her anxiety, he chose to invest more time with his loved ones. Despite recognizing the mission’s risks due to numerous Hunters prepared for battle, the likelihood of failure was significantly reduced. After thorough investigation and analysis, the raid received authorization.
Without the Ant King’s presence, it seems the Hunters could have managed just fine without Jinwoo’s assistance. However, to ensure safety in an emergency, he positions his shadow soldiers among some of the Hunters, ready to intervene if needed. Indeed, his concerns proved valid as he eventually had to go to the island himself.
