This year, Sega conducted a private trial for the upcoming racing game, “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds,” which showcases Sonic the Hedgehog and his companions. Many enthusiasts had the opportunity to preview its offerings, and have since passed on their comments to Sega. On the official X/Twitter platform, the company announced they are now “steering toward release with your feedback in mind.” It’s unclear how much of this input the developers will incorporate, but we can hope it leads to a more robust game experience overall.
In the brief span of the closed beta, gamers hailing from over 130 diverse regions raced across more than a million finish lines. During this test phase, several game characters were accessible for play, and Sega has disclosed the most favored ones. As expected, Sonic emerged as the favorite racer. Shadow followed closely in popularity, mirroring Michael Murphy’s observations from his beta experience. The third spot in the top 3 was claimed by Cream and Cheese.
Currently, the game Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds doesn’t have a confirmed launch date yet, but it’s expected to come out this year. Sega might still be deciding on the exact release date since they want to make necessary improvements based on player feedback. Historically, Sonic the Hedgehog games from Sega have tended to drop in fall, often around October or November, which aligns well with the holiday season. It’s plausible that this is their plan, given rumors about Nintendo releasing a racing game featuring its mascot sometime soon.
