Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Leaked Images Reveal a Bunch of New Details

Approximately a month has passed since Sega unveiled Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds during The Game Awards. So far, we’ve only seen a brief teaser for the new Sonic the Hedgehog game, but details about the title have been scarce, and no actual gameplay footage has been shown. However, it appears that Sega might reveal more information about the game soon, perhaps as early as today during the PlayStation State of Play. Some images from Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds have leaked online, which suggest several potential changes to the game’s formula. If these leaked images are accurate, Sega could be making some exciting adjustments to the game.

Based on recent leaks, it appears that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will offer more than just regular vehicles (such as the Speed Star). It’s also rumored to reintroduce Extreme Gear, a feature first introduced in Sonic Riders. Interestingly, a leaked home screen from CrossWorlds features Jet the Hawk, a character who initially appeared in the 2006 racing game. This same screen also hints at a dinosaur, leading fans to speculate it may be connected to Sonic and the Secret Rings. Some even believe they’ve spotted references to LEGO Sonic or possibly Minecraft. Images of the leaked game can be found in the embedded Bluesky post below.

Previous glimpses into the game “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” hinted that players would traverse dimensions through drifting. New leaks offer a clearer idea of how this could work and which diverse worlds players might explore. It appears that Sega will incorporate characters and settings from across the Sonic series, even some long-absent ones, to keep fans guessing. Since all leaked information is subject to change until officially confirmed, it’s best to take these details with a pinch of salt. The leaked images seem authentic and have sparked enthusiasm among Sonic enthusiasts online, but their legitimacy remains uncertain.

It’s quite plausible that Sega could unveil details about a new Sonic game during today’s PlayStation State of Play event. In fact, they initially showed off “Sonic x Shadow Generations” during a State of Play in January 2024. Given the history, it’s possible that Sony and Sega have made a similar arrangement for “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds”, suggesting we might get our first glimpse of this game today.

Though PlayStation may unveil details about the game first, it’s important to mention that “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” won’t be exclusive to either the PS4 or PS5. Instead, Sega has confirmed that this racing title will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. As of now, a release date for the game hasn’t been disclosed. Given the pattern of the last three Sonic games, we might have to wait until fall 2025; however, it’s also possible that the game is further along in development, as voice actress Colleen O’Shaughnessey recently revealed that recording for “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” has already been completed.
