Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – REVIEW

As a lifelong gamer and a child of the ’90s, I must say that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has truly outdone itself! The animation is so spot-on, it feels like stepping into a high-definition version of my childhood memories. The action is fast-paced and furious, much like the original game, and Jim Carrey’s performance as Dr. Robotnik is nothing short of brilliant – that man never fails to crack me up!

It’s safe to say that Paramount Studios was taken aback when their movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, turned out to be the third highest-grossing Hollywood film in 2020. Upon closer examination, it becomes clear that this success can be attributed to the fact that it was released just as the world went into lockdown, which significantly boosted its earnings to a staggering $319 million. Unsurprisingly, given its financial success, a sequel was produced, earning over $400 million, leading directly to Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

As a die-hard movie fanatic, I’d put it this way:

In summary, the recent video game to movie adaptation boasts impressive animation, with attention to detail that extends to bloodshot veins in character’s eyes. The action is chaotic and Jim Carrey steals the show with his characteristic expressions, making even his exaggerated mustache compete with Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot portrayal. While the script is as expected, there are several witty lines that can be quite humorous if you manage to spot them amidst the frenetic action. The soundtrack complements this mayhem well, featuring tracks like The Prodigy’s “Firestarter,” which surprisingly is now 28 years old.

Enthusiasts of Sonic are certain to be thrilled with the movie, particularly the two bonus scenes during the credits that will leave them in awe about the potential plotline for the upcoming fourth film. Overall, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 makes for an excellent choice for a family outing to the cinema after Christmas.
