As a seasoned moviegoer who grew up with the iconic blue blur zipping through my childhood memories, I must say that the arrival of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been akin to finding an old friend after years apart. The first two films were enjoyable, but this third installment feels like a homecoming for fans like me who spent countless hours chasing rings and collecting chaos emeralds in the original games.

Fans eagerly awaited the release of Sonic 3, whether they were followers of the movie series, video games, or the speedy hedgehog himself. Recently, Comicbook’s Marc Deschamps attended a screening to deliver a brief review on the new film. He stated, “In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, they build upon what worked in the previous two films by streamlining many aspects, resulting in a more compact narrative that revolves around beloved Sega characters. This adaptation is remarkably true to the games and offers numerous nods to longtime fans. Although it caters well to dedicated followers, it doesn’t compromise the ability for casual viewers to enjoy the story as well.
Instead, the movie version of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 incorporates elements from previous games to further develop and distinguish its unique cinematic universe. This approach appeals to both young fans as well as those who fondly remember playing Sonic Adventure 2. After three films, Paramount’s Sonic series remains strong, and this could very well be the best one yet.
If it’s not an enthusiastic endorsement, I’m unsure what would be. If you appreciate the swift and lively rodents, the cinemas are calling your name. Notably, this film features not just one but two of those speedy creatures!
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 premieres in theaters today Friday, December 20th.
