As a long-time fan who grew up with Sonic blasting through my Sega Genesis, I can’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and excitement when I see the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer! The first two films were massive hits, earning more than any of us could have imagined. Now, with production delays due to that dreaded SAG strike, it seems our blue blur’s adventure will finally hit the big screen in December 2024.
The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer has arrived in our mailbox, which is surprising to many, considering the initial anticipation. Yet, the previous two movies have proven to be massive hits, grossing $319 million and $405 million at the box office each.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I found myself caught up in the turmoil that was the SAG strike towards the end of 2023. This disruption hit particularly close to home when filming for an exciting production was underway in Farnham, Surrey, UK. With actors being unable to participate due to the Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America strike, stand-ins were brought in to represent Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles during the shooting process.
The creators of previous Sonic movies drew inspiration from playing “Sonic Adventure 2” and “Shadow The Hedgehog,” as well as storylines from the 90s animated TV series “Sonic the Hedgehog.” After the second film, Jim Carrey hinted at retiring from acting, but producers said they wouldn’t replace him as Dr. Robotnik if he did, hoping instead that he’d reconsider if the script appealed to him. In 2024, it was confirmed that Carrey would return to his role for this film, marking his third time playing the character in a movie.
