According to reports from Variety, this fourth installment in the series will hit theaters in spring 2027. At present, details about the upcoming movie are scarce, but given the success of the first two films by Paramount, and the projected box office earnings for the third film ranging between $55 million to $60 million, it’s not unexpected news. Additionally, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is poised to pave the way for another movie in the franchise.
As of now, it’s uncertain which actors will reprise their roles for “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” but it’s likely that director Jeff Fowler and producer Toby Ascher will return given their past involvement in the series. Toby mentioned during a Sonic Central event this year that there are numerous stories yet to be told, indicating they plan to keep going. The majority of the cast may return, but the future participation of Jim Carrey as Ivo Robotnik is undecided. Carrey has been rejuvenating his career, but he’s also openly discussed the possibility of retirement. Whether “Sonic 3” will mark Carrey’s final performance as the villain remains to be determined.

This year, the “Knuckles” series did a commendable job in this regard, airing a 6-episode season exclusively on Paramount+. It’s plausible we could see more spin-offs like this. There are even whispers of a second season for the “Knuckles” show and a separate spin-off focused on Shadow the Hedgehog, who first appeared in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”. Keanu Reeves lent his voice to Shadow in the original game. At this point, no official announcements have been made regarding either project, but it’s worth mentioning that the “Knuckles” series was well-received by viewers; according to Paramount, the show was streamed for 4 million hours during its debut weekend.
