Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Report Reveals Release Window for Next Movie

As a gamer who has been around since the days of the Sega Genesis, the news of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 coming in 2027 feels like a nostalgic punch to the heart! The first two movies were a blast, and I can’t wait to see what adventures Sonic, Tails, and the gang will get into next.

Today, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is tearing into cinemas, and hot on its heels, Paramount has already unveiled plans for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. According to reports from Variety, this fourth installment in the series will hit theaters in spring 2027. At present, details about the upcoming movie are scarce, but given the success of the first two films by Paramount, and the projected box office earnings for the third film ranging between $55 million to $60 million, it’s not unexpected news. Additionally, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is poised to pave the way for another movie in the franchise.

As of now, it’s uncertain which actors will reprise their roles for “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” but it’s likely that director Jeff Fowler and producer Toby Ascher will return given their past involvement in the series. Toby mentioned during a Sonic Central event this year that there are numerous stories yet to be told, indicating they plan to keep going. The majority of the cast may return, but the future participation of Jim Carrey as Ivo Robotnik is undecided. Carrey has been rejuvenating his career, but he’s also openly discussed the possibility of retirement. Whether “Sonic 3” will mark Carrey’s final performance as the villain remains to be determined.

The third installment of “Sonic the Hedgehog” provides a solid clue about the direction for the upcoming film, but Paramount isn’t limited to just one option. With the Sonic series spanning over three decades, there are numerous characters still waiting to make their cinematic debut in the Sonic Cinematic Universe. Ranging from lesser-known figures to fan favorites, there’s a wealth of potential characters and stories that could be brought to life. This diversity suggests an exciting future that extends well beyond even a fourth movie!

As we wait over two years for the release of “Sonic the Hedgehog 4”, it’s intriguing to speculate if Paramount might produce extra content to bridge the gap. This year, the “Knuckles” series did a commendable job in this regard, airing a 6-episode season exclusively on Paramount+. It’s plausible we could see more spin-offs like this. There are even whispers of a second season for the “Knuckles” show and a separate spin-off focused on Shadow the Hedgehog, who first appeared in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”. Keanu Reeves lent his voice to Shadow in the original game. At this point, no official announcements have been made regarding either project, but it’s worth mentioning that the “Knuckles” series was well-received by viewers; according to Paramount, the show was streamed for 4 million hours during its debut weekend.
