Sonic the Hedgehog Game Getting Removed from Sale Soon

As a long-time Sonic fan who has spent countless hours racing through loops and zipping past bad guys since the early 90’s, I must say that Sega’s decision to delist the original Sonic Generations while offering it as part of a bundle feels like a double-edged sword. On one hand, I’m excited about the upcoming remaster, especially since it will be making its debut on Nintendo platforms for the first time! But on the other hand, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia knowing that the original game may soon become harder to find.

On October 25th, the remastered version of “Sonic x Shadow Generations” is set to be released, bringing an updated take on one of our beloved Sonic games. Though fans are excited about this new release, Sega has shared some important news: the original game will no longer be available for purchase starting September 9th. So, if you’re keen on getting your hands on the original version, now is the time to act quickly. To soften the blow, Sega has introduced a compromise: instead of completely withdrawing the game from sale, it will now be part of a bundle called Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Bundle, available for purchase on Steam and Xbox platforms.

The Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Bundle will cost $59.99, and will be released on both Xbox and Steam. The bundle will include the following titles:

  • Sonic Generations Collection
  • Sonic Adventure DX
  • Sonic Adventure 2
  • Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2
  • Sonic 3D Blast
  • Sonic Spinball

As a longtime Sonic fan, I was quite relieved when Sega announced that the changes they made to the Steam release of Sonic Generations won’t affect the existing mods for the game. Having played and enjoyed countless hours on this classic title, I was initially worried about any potential impact on my beloved modifications. However, it seems like everything is going to be okay, as the original version of Sonic Generations will still be available on Steam and won’t get lost in the shuffle when it comes to newer releases like Sonic x Shadow Generations.

Initially released in 2011, “Sonic Generations” is set to make its debut on a Nintendo system with the upcoming remaster. This will be the first instance that “Sonic Generations” is playable on PS4 and PS5, as well as the first time it appears on a Nintendo platform (though there was a different 3DS version). The “Sonic x Shadow Generations” bundle won’t only include the remastered version but also a new game called “Shadow Generations”, which draws inspiration from games that prominently featured Shadow the Hedgehog. This package could potentially be the ultimate way to experience the game, although the original version of “Sonic Generations” will still be accessible in some form for those who prefer it!
