Things aren’t off to a strong start for MindsEye, the recently released third-person shooter with an unusual marketing approach, which has just been launched on PlayStation 5.
Just a few days ago, I got my hands on the new game that dropped for Sony’s console on June 10th. As TheGamer mentioned, it seems like the platform holder is already offering refunds to those who bought it early.
It’s common knowledge that PlayStation often takes a more cautious approach when it comes to granting refunds compared to other gaming companies. Typically, a game needs to be seriously flawed or nearly unplayable for the refund process to work effectively. The rocky debut of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 serves as an example of this situation.
However, it seems that MindsEye meets the requirements. While it’s not completely unplayable on PlayStation 5 (for now), it’s poorly optimized for the current generation system. There have been frequent reports of crashes, and the game often runs below 30 frames per second, even on the PS5 Pro, despite being capped at 30 frames per second initially.
Due to a surprisingly bumpy start, the developers at Build A Rocket Boy have taken to social media to express their regret and apologize to gamers.
In addition to the announcement of a prompt ‘quick solution’ aimed at resolving initial performance issues, the studio conveys: “With deep gratitude to all our early adopters, we acknowledge that the debut of MindsEye hasn’t been flawless for certain players.
Currently, we’re focusing heavily on improving the game’s performance. We acknowledge that the demands are substantial, which unfortunately has resulted in a less rich experience for some of you. For any inconvenience caused, we genuinely apologize.
Our current priority is enhancing functionality on all types of devices. We’re planning to release a fix by the end of this week specifically for PC, and we’ll make it available for consoles as quickly as we can following that.
In our MindsEye PS5 Evaluation, we labeled the game as a “futuristic flop”, summarizing: “MindsEye is a faulty, dull disaster of a game that somehow made it to the market.” We rated it a disastrous 3/10.
