Sony’s PlayStation division is starting the year on a less favorable note as SIE Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games’ live service projects have been axed. Contrary to some past cancellations linked to studio closures, Sony assures that this isn’t the scenario for these two particular titles.
According to a report from Bloomberg, a Sony representative confirmed that neither Bend nor Bluepoint Studios are scheduled for closure at this time. Instead, Sony is collaborating with these studios to determine their future plans.
Sony announced that they’re collaborating closely with top-tier studios, Bend and Bluepoint, who have proven themselves within the PlayStation Studios community. They’re figuring out the upcoming projects for these talented teams.
As a gamer, I can’t help but wonder if the cancellation of some projects might lead to job losses. Historically, such events often result in reductions, but Sony has only stated that they’re collaborating closely with Bend and Bluepoint to decide on future projects and are committed to minimizing any negative business impact.
While Sony may not always adhere to its current plans following significant setbacks, one can only hope that they do so this time around. Given that both studios are now preparing to embark on fresh projects from the ground up, it seems we won’t be seeing any output from either of them for several years at least.
