It appears that SIE Bend Studio’s string of adversity is persisting. Ever since the release of Days Gone in 2019, the studio has been plagued with continuous turmoil. Following news about a potential Days Gone sequel and an Uncharted game being canceled over the past few years, another title, marking the third in a row, has suffered the same fate.
For several years, Sony Bend has been developing a new open-world live service game, but unfortunately, this project has been put on hold. As per a recent report from Bloomberg, Sony Bend’s game and an unannounced title from Bluepoint Games join a growing list of live service games that have been canceled by Sony.
Starting in May 2023, Sony announced plans to launch a dozen live service games over the subsequent three years, marking a significant expansion in this area. Since then, while Helldivers 2 has enjoyed broad acclaim, Sony’s live service initiatives have also faced numerous setbacks and cancellations. Among these disappointments were Concord, The Last of Us Online, a multiplayer Spider-Man game, London Studio’s project, an anticipated Twisted Metal reboot, and several others.
Sony says these latest cancellations won’t lead to studio closures. Read more on that through here.
