Starting from April 1, 2025, Sony Interactive Entertainment has chosen Hideaki Nishino to take on the roles of President and Chief Executive Officer. This decision was officially announced. Prior to this appointment, Nishino held the position of CEO for the Platform Business Group, a role he assumed alongside Hermen Hulst who became CEO of the Studio Business Group on June 1, 2024. Hulst will continue in his role as CEO of the Studio Business Group and report directly to Nishino.
In a statement, Nishino expressed his profound gratitude for being given the opportunity to lead Sony Interactive Entertainment. He emphasized that our key assets lie in technology and creativity as we strive to create entertainment for all. Our plans include broadening the PlayStation community through intellectual property expansion and technological innovation. I’d like to express my appreciation to Hermen for his guidance as he remains CEO, Studio Business Group. I am deeply thankful for the support of the PlayStation community and eagerly look forward to what lies ahead.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I, Nishino, will carry on my role as the CEO for our Platform Business Group. Meanwhile, Hulst will remain at the helm, guiding the creative, publishing, and business operations of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s exclusive content production.
Sony Corporation’s top executive, Hiroki Totoki, currently serving as president, COO, and CFO, is set to leave his role as chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Instead, he will assume the positions of president and CEO at Sony Corporation, taking over from Kenichiro Yoshida who will transition to director, representative corporate executive officer, and chairman.
Lin Tao, the current senior vice president of finance, corporate development, and strategy at Sony Interactive Entertainment, is set to leave her post to take on the role of Chief Financial Officer at Sony Group Corporation. A replacement for Tao at Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to be announced.
In a statement, Totoki expressed his joy at collaborating more intimately with Hermen and Nishino while learning about the dynamic, swift-moving environment of Sony Interactive Entertainment. As Nishino takes over and this remarkable leadership team continues, he is optimistic that Sony Interactive Entertainment will ascend to greater heights in the future. With three decades of providing top-notch entertainment globally, this is an exhilarating new phase for Sony Interactive Entertainment, demonstrating its dedication to nurturing creativity and forging significant relationships with countless players. I am thrilled to have Lin as my replacement as the Chief Financial Officer of Sony Group Corporation. Lin has played a crucial role in our success at Sony Interactive Entertainment, overseeing Finance, Corporate Development, and Strategy functions, and I eagerly anticipate working together at Sony Group Corporation.
Kenichiro Yoshida stated, “To contribute positively to Sony’s long-term development, I have been in consultation with the Nominating Committee and the Board of Directors regarding my succession. Given Hiroki Totoki’s significant contributions to Sony, such as his accomplishments since becoming President and COO in April 2023, I proposed that he take over as CEO this same month. I am appreciative of the Nominating Committee and the Board for their backing of this suggestion. Since I became President and CEO in April 2018, Totoki has been an essential member of our management team. He led growth strategies for Sony Group, including investments in content IP and semiconductors, and is a visionary leader who can shape our future growth plans. As we move forward, I will assist Totoki as he directs his new leadership team.
