Sony is Planning a Bigger Game Showcase For Summer – Rumour

Following Sony’s State of Play broadcast last week, whispers suggest that the corporation could be gearing up for a significant showcase event later in the year. During a recent episode of his Game Mess Decides podcast, Jeff Grubb hinted at the possibility of Sony unveiling more first-party games.

Grubb stated that there might be some exciting revelations on the horizon for 2026, possibly hinting at increased anticipation. It seems like they’re internally deliberating between hosting a major event in the summer or another State of Play. However, it appears they are leaning towards holding an event. If they do, it implies they have a lot to discuss. In such a scenario, it would be reasonable to assume that Marvel’s Wolverine and several other games scheduled for release next year would be unveiled.

During his discussion, Grubb touched upon the fact that Bungie’s upcoming multiplayer game, Marathon, was not unveiled at the recent State of Play event. Explaining this, Grubb suggested that it’s probable that the game will have its own dedicated presentation in the future.

Grubb stated, “Marathon wasn’t present because it seems they have their own plans. Typically, Bungie does things independently for Destiny. They plan to use the same approach of communicating directly with their audience this year as well. So, I believe we might hear from Bungie regarding Marathon around April, and that will likely be its own separate event apart from a State of Play.

Way back in 2023, Bungie initially introduced the concept of Marathon. This new interpretation of the original trilogy differs significantly as it focuses primarily on multiplayer experiences. Since its initial announcement, Bungie has been rather secretive about the game’s development. However, whispers suggest that they will unveil a comprehensive demonstration of the game sometime in April.

During Sony’s latest State of Play broadcast, we were treated to a host of fresh trailers and unveilings. Among these, we got a glimpse at the launch trailer for the highly anticipated title, “Monster Hunter Wilds”. The event also introduced us to a new installment in the PixelJunk series titled “Dreams of Another”. We learned about the next big addition to the Digimon Stories universe called “Time Stranger”. Furthermore, we were given the release date for “HELL is Us” and a sneak peek at the secret launch of “Warriors: Abyss”, along with several other exciting reveals.

During the exhibition, it was announced that the upcoming major launch is “Monster Hunter Rampage”, set to hit PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on February 28th. Additionally, Capcom disclosed during the event that Mizutsune will be added to the game’s collection of monsters in its first free post-release update. Another free update is scheduled for Summer, which will introduce a new, enigmatic monster as well.

For now, let me outline the key distinctions between “Monster Hunter World” and its forthcoming title, “Monastery of the Hunting Wilds”.
