Approximately four years after its release, Sony has filed a DMCA takedown notice for an unauthorized Bloodborne mod that boosts the game’s frame rate to 60 frames per second.
The news comes via the mod’s creator, Lance McDonald, on social media:
McDonald previously stated that Bloodborne was merely a couple lines of code away from achieving its performance goal. He demonstrated this possibility with an unofficial update, but regrettably, due to Sony’s actions, the modification is no longer accessible.
It’s not too shocking, but the fact that the DMCA takedown occurred when it did is quite intriguing. What could have delayed its execution for so long?
People are suggesting that the takedown request might have happened recently since March of this year marks the 10th anniversary of the action RPG, making it a perfect opportunity for Sony to unveil any Bloodborne-related news or updates.
Given that players can enjoy Bloodborne at a smooth 60 frames-per-second now, one might wonder why there’s a need to purchase a remaster in the first place.
It seems plausible, if not overly optimistic, that fans could be onto something. Sony might be taking their time to uncover the mod, or perhaps there’s a hidden development going on behind the scenes.
What’s your take on the situation? Could it be that this DMCA takedown is significant, or could Sony’s legal team simply be reacting to recent developments? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
