Sony Removes Resistance and Infamous from PS Plus Premium, Fans Furious

Sony’s approach, which has stirred debate, is making it more challenging for gamers to play two well-liked PS3 exclusives. Unsurprisingly, PlayStation users on both PS4 and PS5 are expressing displeasure about this change. In contrast, Xbox enthusiasts have always found it straightforward to access Xbox 360 games. However, this hasn’t been the case with the PS3, and PlayStation fans have had to adapt accordingly. The issue lies in the console’s design, as Sony has grappled with PS3 backward compatibility. As a result, PS3 games can only be played on the PS5 through PS Plus Premium streaming service. For those who want to revisit these classic PS3 games, they must dig out their old PS3 consoles, power them on, and endure a three-day wait for all updates to download before they can play.

Absolutely, not every game from the PS3 era is included in the PS Plus Premium collection, but there are numerous fan favorites among them. However, starting in May, two iconic titles from the Resistance series – Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 – will no longer be part of the library. Given that these games are PlayStation originals, it’s surprising to see them being taken off PS Plus Premium. Many fellow PlayStation enthusiasts have voiced their confusion about this decision since there seems to be no additional cost for Sony to keep these games on the service, unlike other titles where they need to negotiate deals for a limited time.

2025 finds me in a predicament as a dedicated PlayStation fan: Two beloved PS3 games I’ve cherished are set to become elusive gems. With their availability dwindling, it will be quite the challenge to revisit these games in 2025. The only viable solution for us fans is dusting off the PS3 console and giving it a spin, an action that seems less appealing or feasible for many, including myself, in 2025.

A PlayStation enthusiast expressed frustration on Reddit about the upcoming removal of Resistance, stating that it will no longer be playable unless on old PS3s. They strongly suggested that there should either be remastered versions or updates for Resistance and Infamous in development, as they see no justification for removing them otherwise.

In line with the second quote, Infamous: Second Son will no longer be available in the PS Plus Premium and PS Plus Extra collections. This may seem peculiar given Sony’s ownership of the game. However, since it’s a PlayStation 4 title that can easily be played on both PS4 and PS5 consoles, its removal might not be as significant an issue.

We’re unsure about the exact departure date for these three PlayStation exclusives from PS Plus Premium, but it is expected to occur around mid-May. Approximately 20 other games are also scheduled to leave at the same time.

Currently, Sony hasn’t uttered a word regarding the ongoing situation and the criticism they are facing. It seems unlikely that this will change soon, but if it does, we’ll promptly update our story.
