Crunchyroll, a division owned by Sony, plans to broaden its anime streaming service by launching a manga application, which is set to be available towards the end of this year.
At the CES 2025, they unveiled a new premium service, an additional feature to their existing lineup. However, details about the specific titles that will be part of its collection remain undisclosed. Clearly, content is crucial when it comes to digital services such as this, making it the reigning monarch.
Crunchyroll has dabbled in manga distribution before, but back in 2023, their service wasn’t top-notch. The selection was mediocre and the user interface was frequently criticized for being glitchy. If they want to convince people to spend more money on this new offering, they’ll have to improve significantly from their past attempts.
