Sony has opted to transform their Horizon Zero Dawn project, originally planned as a Netflix series, into a feature film instead.
In an interview with Variety, the head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash, mentioned that their TV project in partnership with Netflix wasn’t progressing as they had envisioned, so instead, they are now producing a Horizon Zero Dawn movie. Additionally, Qizilbash hinted at the possibility of transforming the popular video game Astro Bot into a feature film.
In addition to Todd Howard from Bethesda, it was also mentioned that he and Qizilbash concurred about the significance of adapting video games correctly. Unlike Sony’s unsuccessful TV adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn, Bethesda achieved success with a Fallout series on Amazon Prime.
Initially, many individuals expressed interest in creating a feature film. However, considering our vision for this project, Howard felt that condensing everything seemed too restrictive. “The Fallout universe is so captivating,” he explained, “so rather than revisiting an old story or compressing one we’ve already told, we wanted to explore new narratives within this world.” In essence, they aimed to present fresh tales in the Fallout universe, as opposed to adapting a tale that had been previously told.
