Sony XDEV Is Eager For You to Watch Today’s PS5 Livestream

Today’s State of Play livestream appears to be bringing us significant updates straight from Sony’s XDEV team.

For those unaware, XDEV (formerly known as XDEV Europe) is a development team entirely owned by Sony, based in Britain. Their role involves assisting external game studios in launching first-party games, a function that was historically referred to as second-party development, though this term has largely fallen out of use now.

Some projects it has been involved with are last year’s Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade, both of which were created by teams not owned by it but published and marketed by Sony. In the past, it has also collaborated with studios like Quantic Dream, Media Molecule (prior to acquisition), and numerous others.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m pumped that the upcoming State of Play will likely feature a game with a massive presence! After the livestream unveiled it, their official social media accounts couldn’t wait to share the news. Ever since then, XDEV director Jason Stewart has been encouraging fans to “stay tuned,” and associate producer Carina Calvert hinted that “something pretty exciting is happening tomorrow.” So, I’m counting down the hours until tomorrow!

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is likely related to Hideo Kojima’s sequel as it falls under XDEV’s jurisdiction. However, Calvert’s online resume hints at an “unannounced project,” suggesting that we might get more updates from the studio during the event.
