It’s somewhat surprising to consider Sony and Nintendo working together, given their history of competition that dates back to when the video game designer notoriously betrayed Sony by releasing a popular game on a rival platform.
Despite any prior disagreements, these two are teaming up for a real-life portrayal of The Legend of Zelda, set to premiere on the 26th of March, 2027.
Moments ago, Nintendo made the announcement using their in-house app, Nintendo Today, possibly signaling a change in how they disseminate information. This news has us raising a glass to our friends at Nintendo Life, as they’ll likely refresh that page multiple times daily now.
This upcoming movie is being produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, with well-known game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and experienced filmmaker Avi Arad serving as producers. Wes Ball has been appointed as the director, and he’s expressed his desire to give a more realistic feel to the franchise through this film.
Frankly, while it’s uncertain if a live-action Zelda film could match the success of the latest animated Super Mario movie, given that Nintendo seems determined with these projects, there’s certainly cause for cautious optimism.
