Sony’s latest State of Play might not have met everyone’s expectations, but it underscores the significance of comprehensive presentations like these, often referred to as ‘Deep Dives’.
Overnight, Borderlands 4 secured an exclusive 20-minute airtime on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel, due to contractual obligations, and the view count is rapidly approaching one million.
Currently, as I’m typing this, the video is gaining popularity on YouTube. The response so far has generally been favorable, with many people suggesting it seems like a revival of Gearbox’s loot-shooter series’ quality.

Specifically, fans seem particularly fond of the slightly down-to-earth style, smooth movement mechanics, and fresh options for acquiring new items.
As a gamer, I’ve seen Sony dedicate a State of Play event to a single game before, like with Hogwarts Legacy and Gran Turismo 7. Honestly, I think this format should be used more frequently. In my opinion, it provides a perfect platform for showcasing an upcoming game in all its glory.
It’s likely that the platform provider is heeding the feedback, and may have more streams like those for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Ghost of Yotei, and potentially GTA 6 in store.
That latter one would probably break the Internet, wouldn’t it?
