Ncuti Gatwa has decided not to continue as the representative of the UK at Eurovision. Instead, it will be Sophie Ellis-Bextor taking over the role that was previously held by the Doctor Who actor.
The update arrived from BBC near the conclusion of the second Eurovision semifinal where the British act, Remember Monday, presented their song titled “What The Hell Just Happened?”.
Due to some unexpected events, Ncuti Gatwa won’t be able to take part as the Spokesperson for the Grand Final this weekend. But don’t worry, BBC Radio 2’s Friday night kitchen party host Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be announcing the Jury’s decision live from the UK instead!
Sophie Ellis-Bextor expressed her excitement: “I adore Eurovision, and it’s a great honor to participate in the 2025 Grand Final. It’s a tremendous privilege to announce the UK’s jury score for such a unique show that consistently focuses on music. I can hardly wait to award the renowned twelve points from the United Kingdom!
Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Ncuti Gatwa will serve as the official representative, with the Eurovision grand finale aligning with a special Doctor Who episode called “The Cosmic Music Competition.
The task of a spokesperson involves announcing their nation’s points from the jury, as the tally of public votes gets integrated, which can significantly alter the situation.
In past years, I’ve been thrilled to witness some fantastic personalities like Joanna Lumley, Catherine Tate, AJ Odudu, Amanda Holden, and Rylan Clark step up as the UK’s representative in various events.
