In the gripping series, Yellowjackets, I found myself captivated by the portrayal of the young Natalie, skillfully brought to life by Tawny Cypress. As a reasonable voice and pragmatist within the group, she also takes on the crucial role as their provider, honing her hunting skills to ensure survival. Despite her grounded nature, she doesn’t shy away from the series’ disturbing aspects, such as cannibalism. Tawny’s performance as Natalie is undeniably one of the standout performances among the teenage characters, making it a bittersweet moment when we learned that her adult counterpart met an untimely end in Season 2, ensuring she will continue to captivate us in future episodes.
The anticipation for Season 3 of the show is immense, largely due to Thatcher’s prominent role as the leading character in the popular series Companion, which has garnered wide acclaim with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This film boasts many appealing elements – sharp humor, incisive commentary on gender and relationships, a stellar cast, and an engaging blend of suspense and comedy. However, it’s Thatcher’s portrayal of Iris, a woman who discovers her relationship isn’t as she initially believed, that truly steals the show. Her performance is nothing short of remarkable, making it effortless to empathize with Iris and cheer her on.
Before Companion, Sophie Thatcher Was No Stranger to Horror Films
Accompanying “Companion”, Thatcher also starred in another horror movie that premiered in cinemas just three months prior to this writing. The film titled “Heretic” was well-received, and Thatcher shared the lead role with Chloe East. They played missionaries who visited Hugh Grant’s character, Mr. Reed, to spread their religious beliefs; however, Mr. Reed was eager to challenge their faith in gruesome ways. Grant delivered a delightful and captivating performance as the antagonist, but Thatcher held her own against him.
In the year 2024, Thatcher appeared in a minor role within Ti West’s concluding film of the X trilogy titled MaXXXine. Although her character was that of a special effects makeup artist, she managed to captivate audiences with her brief appearances. Given her rising fame from her portrayal in Yellowjackets, it’s difficult to overlook her performance. Furthermore, Thatcher had previously starred in another horror film, The Boogeyman, where she played one of two sisters grappling with the loss of their mother and a looming supernatural force menacing the remnants of their family.
