Amazon’s big Tomb Raider TV adaptation is apparently in trouble.
According to reports from Daily Mail, the show that has tapped Phoebe Waller-Bridge as a writer and may feature Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner, is said to be cancelled based on information from their sources.
The report indicates that the production of the show has been stalled in a creative limbo; drafts from Waller-Bridge have either not materialized or are yet to reach a stage suitable for filming.
It appears that Turner, initially slated for the leading role of Lara Croft, has a full schedule with other commitments throughout most of 2025.
To cap it all, it’s worth noting that Jennifer Salke, the one who gave the go-ahead for the Tomb Raider adaptation and was closely monitoring the project, has stepped down from her position as head of Amazon Studios.
According to one source, the show has been called off, while Matt Belloni, the writer for Puck, states that the script for the show is yet to be written.
It seems quite disorganized, doesn’t it? The main writer isn’t delivering as expected and the leading actor can’t seem to make a commitment, which might potentially put the Amazon series of Tomb Raider at risk.
I’m hoping we get an announcement regarding the show soon; it would be unfortunate if everything fell apart without any proper resolution.
