The third-person adventure game set in the south, titled “South of Midnight” by Compulsion Games and Xbox Game Studios, has been completed and is ready for release.
The significant milestone stems from recent interviews with members of the development team on Xbox Wire, indicating that South of Midnight has completed its development, making it available for release on various digital marketplaces.
Indeed, it’s quite amusing to apply the term “gone gold” to a completely digital game, given its origins. Back in the day, going gold meant the final version of the game was on a gold master disc, ready for mass production. Nowadays, since the game is all-digital, the phrase takes on a new, albeit humorous, meaning.
Currently, the game “South of Midnight” is exclusively available in digital format. It might be that we’ll eventually see a limited number of physical copies, just like what happened with other Xbox games such as “Pentiment” and “Grounded”.
During the interview, they mentioned that the official soundtrack for South of Midnight is now available for listening. You can stream the tracks on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Bandcamp.
Olivier Deriviere, known for his work on video game soundtracks such as A Plague Tale: Innocence and its sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, is responsible for the music of South of Midnight.
Initially unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, South of Midnight was later showcased in detail, including a trailer and gameplay demonstration, during the subsequent year.
If you haven’t done so already, don’t forget to check out my thoughts on experiencing South of Midnight firsthand. The team’s dedication to crafting a work fitting of the Southern Gothic style left me quite impressed.
The game titled “South of Midnight” is scheduled to debut on April 8, 2025. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC platforms, which include Steam, the Xbox app, and other standard outlets. As an exclusive Xbox first-party production, it comes with the perk of being accessible via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for console users and PC Game Pass for PC gamers. Those who purchase the Premium Edition will have the opportunity to start playing five days ahead of the official launch, beginning on April 3.
