At the latest Developer_Direct event, Compulsion Games unveiled the official release date for South of Midnight and simultaneously opened up the option for digital pre-orders.
Instead of just being able to pre-order and play the standard version of “South of Midnight” on its launch date, April 8, there’s also a Premium Edition available. This special edition includes extra perks and offers early access to the game, starting five days before the official release, from April 3.
In addition to the game titled “South of Midnight”, the Premium Edition includes a digital art book, a digital comic book, a digital version of the game’s original soundtrack, a music video, and a documentary about the game. The Premium Edition of “South of Midnight” retails for $49.99, while the standard edition is available for $39.99.
In the game’s soundtrack, crafted by Olivier Deriviere, you’ll find tunes contributed by artists hailing from the South. The music varies from soulful blues to upbeat honky-tonk rhythms. The soundtrack is designed to echo the cultural heritage that forms the backbone of the game’s main location.
The comic named “The Boo-Hag” is penned and illustrated by Rob Guillory. This vibrant comic book centers on the character Hazel, who has an encounter with a legendary monster from the folklore of the Deep South.
The film titled “Weaving Hazel’s Journey: Director’s Cut” primarily focuses on the evolution of a specific game. It also delves into the process of crafting the game’s universe, sharing the various sources that influenced the artists, designers, and writers involved in the project.
Compulsion Games has unveiled a gameplay trailer for the upcoming title South of Midnight. This sneak peek not only showcases Hazel’s fighting and exploration skills but also provides glimpses into the game’s early narrative. The game boasts diverse zones, each teeming with distinct enemies, each possessing unique strengths and vulnerabilities.
Back in November, the studio shared that the game “South of Midnight” promises an exciting journey lasting approximately 20 to 25 hours. Yet, they have not specified yet whether this estimated playtime is only for those focusing solely on the storyline or if it includes additional tasks like side-quests and extra content as well.
Back in June 2023, “South of Midnight” was initially introduced. This game centers around the character of Hazel, a 19-year-old girl who unexpectedly gets chosen to be a Weaver within the magical universe she inhabits. The narrative follows Hazel’s journey as she encounters various adversaries inspired by folklore and myths from the Deep South region where the game takes place.
To learn more about “South of Midnight”, watch the trailer released in June 2024, which offers a thorough glimpse into the game’s diverse combat and exploration features. These elements will allow the protagonist, Hazel, to fully utilize her Weaver abilities.
South of Midnight is coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S on April 8.
